I've just been putting fresh hay in my piggies cage and got two white lumps surrounded by red on my hand. Itching and stinging and seems like a nettle sting or bug bite.

If there is nettles in my hay, is it harmful to my girls? Have there been occurrences of insects in hay that comes pre cut etc from the pet shop?

Just want to know if my girls are in any danger etc as have never come across this before with any previous pigs.

It's a hay I've used before and never experienced this but it does contain dandelion and marigold if that makes a difference.

There are two different types of marigolds. The species calendula is fine for pigs to eat, as are dandelion greens.

The marigold genus Tagetes would not be good for pigs to eat--in fact, I don't know that they would even try.

Dried nettles no longer have a sting. Dried nettles are good for pigs.
