I just wanted to thank everyone that helped me in my posting about a week ago when my piggy Bardo was sick. Especially ChattyCoco and Amiableanimal. Thanks for all of your help guys. I just thought you would like to know that Bardo is doing 100% better. No more wheezing or labored breathing and his eye has even grown alot of the missing hair back. He doesn't have tonz of gunk on his eye anymore either. I took him for his checkup back at the vet and he was so impressed. He said I must have caught him at an early stage of him being sick. He has his color back to normal and is eating and playing like his old self. Just one thing I wanted to ask, I feed him pieces of orange twice a day for his Vit. C. Is that enough, or should I give him something else for more vit.c? He also eats parsley, tomatoes, carrots, collard greens, cilantro, cucumbers, tangerines, and apples (only every couple weeks). He is almost 5 years old, so the doc said to really make sure he is getting enough Vit.C and make sure he eats and drinks like normal. Again, thanks for everyones past help! Chattycoco, you were really there when I was freaking out and you'll never know how much that means to me. Thank you for everything!

I assume you mean apples (only every couple of weeks), and he is getting the variety of veggies as you posted every day, he is doing great. You dont have to worry about his vitamin c. You dont need to give him so much oranges. Three times a week is fine. Try adding sweet red peppers, full of vitamin C. Parsley as you stated is also great for vitamin c. Glad to hear your piggie is coming along.

Tomatoes and carrots should be given more sparingly(I give them every three days) because tomatoes have so much acid and carrots have too much vitamin A. Cucumbers also don't have ALOT of vitamin C. I know Cilantro is great, and I would try red bell peppers and dandelion greens(my piggies favorites)

Hey short, chattycoco is a wonderful friend she helped me when I lost my little Holly on Jan 10th. She was 3 weeks old and ever since we have been talking alot on im. She is a wonderful friend and a shoulder to cry on (online). She is a real sweetheart. Im glad that he is still with you for many more years. I wish that my Holly is up and running around with her 2 sisters but I know that she is at the Rainbow Bridge with all of your long lost piggies. With all of the veggies you got there is awesome and he is spoiled just like my 22 piggers too.

Way to go with Bardo! Better to catch it early, my Amee had an URI but we caught it very early, and she recovered quickly.

Definitely cut down on the fruit (good as a weekly treat) and definitely include red or green bell pepper (yellow and orange work well, too). Bell peppers (esp. red) are loaded with Vit. C. The link below contains accurate information about vegetables, fruits and piggie diets in general.

Read it with Bardo. ;+)

May he give you many more months of joy and happiness.

Thank you very much for those wonderful comments shortlilcutie and angelscavies. They are appreciated more than you know. I personally don't think I am anything special. I just do my homework as far as the piggies are concerned and read gl and here everyday and learn so many things. I am just glad I was able to help you and pass along the information I have learned.

Some bell pepper of any color will greatly help in your piggies diet, and cut down on the carrots and tomato like other posters mentioned above. What kind of lettuce do you feed Bardo? I didn't see lettuce listed at all.

The other alternate would be to get some plain 100mg Vit. C tablets and break them in half and give him half a tablet every day or order some 50mg tablets from www.oxbowhay.com and give him one every day.

Thanks for everyones replies! First of all....yes i did mean apples every three weeks or so.
Yes I give them two big servings of vegtables every day. I didn't really realize that tomatoes and carrots should't be fed that often, so thats good to know. I'll give them carrots every couple of days or so only. As far as peppers go, I tried giving them green peppers but they wouldn't eat it. I'll try and give them red and yellow bell peppers like you all suggested. I feed them romaine lettuce too btw Coco! Just forgot about that!) What other kind of lettuce would be good for them? Thanks for the link Chad! Angelscavies--- I'm also very sorry about the loss of your little Holly....we are very lucky to have people like Coco to help us through our hard times! Thank you to everyone again!

awwwwwww thank you short. Well she is happy now popcorning with all the new friends and looking down at her family too. I still have her 2 sisters and mum. One of her sisters looks just like her but a different color nose. Holly had a brown snout and Scruffles has a white snout but the fur markings are excactly the same.

Red or green leaf lettuce, boston lettuce, endive, radicchio (sp?). About any type of lettuce you can find except for iceburg. I would cut back on carrots and tomatos to 2 times a week each.

I have said numerous times, lol, that the trick to getting piggies to eat new veggies is to keep putting small amounts in there every day for a few days. So try the green pepper again and leave it in the cage for 2-3 hours. If they get hungry I bet they will eat it. I was able to find some red pepper last week so now they get a bit of both red and green every day. My girls all enjoy bell pepper no matter what color it is.

Angelscavies--- well its great that you still have her two sisters and her mom...they are great for the healing process!)
ChattyCoco---Ok i wrote that all down!!! I'm going to the supermarket in a little while, so I'll be sure to pick some up! thank you!!!)

Your welcome!

careful, i went to the store yesterday to get red bell pepper and i had to turn right around. one red bell pepper would've cost me $5. That did not make me a happy camper. i bought some lettuce, carrots, and parsley instead + a pack of gum for me and that came out to be < what it would've cost to buy one R.B.Pepper. :(

They aren't that price everywhere. I bought one here the other day and it was .99.

Dont want to sound rude, but your one bell pepper would have been more nourishing than what you did buy. Thats my opinion.

You can always try green bell pepper, they are much cheaper than red and they have Vit. C. Try the kale again, put a small amount of it in their cage for several days and your pigs are anything like mine, it takes them a few days to get brave enough to try something new. My girls hated kale when I first gave it to them, but now they gobble it up.
