My boy, Cinnamon, seems to be very "frisky" with my girl, Coco. She does not seem to be in the mood and makes sounds like she is upset. I am new to this and really don't know what to do. Will they work it out on their own or should I separate them. Cinnamon is neutered but Coco is not spayed.

Well have they been together before or did you just introduce them?

They will work it out on their own. Don't seperate unless there is bloodshed.

They are recently introduced. I really dig my piggies. Its just hard to explain to my 4 year old son what they are doing. I just say that Cinnamon is trying to jump over Coco and can't quite make it. (got that from the Simpsons) hahaha.

Good idea! HeHe I agree with Slap, unless they hurt each other they should work it out okay.

Ok thanks! I'm really glad I found this website.

Is your pig nurtered?

He is fixed, she is not. Where in San Diego?? We are neighbors.

Great!

He should calm down in a few days. He will not hurt the female.

I've noticed that male/female pairs often find the female chased constantly by the male. Getting one additional female usually solves this problem since the boar will chase one sow and the other sow gets a much needed break. We have two such trios and it works extremely well. If you have the space for one additional pig, do consider it.

Just be sure that he has been neutered correctly. I have a friend who had her boar neutered, had them seperated for a few weeks to be sure that the "plumbing" was completely clear.

The boar was very frisky when they were put together, but being a boar you kind of expect it sometimes. Unfortunately, about 3-4 months after having them together the sow was definately pregnant.

Turns out that somehow the vet botched the job up, and one testicle was still there and in fine working order!.

Thankfully the pregnancy went well, ended up keeping all the babies - housing the baby boars with dad, and the sows remained with mum.

I live in El Cajon too!

Haha, you two! You don't live in San Diego, you live waaaaaayyyyyy out there! ( I live in UTC, so I think going past the 15 is like a two day trip!) Glad everyone is nearby, though. We need more crazy pig people!

I have to drive from El Cajon to downtown San Diego every day for work. It is definately like a 2 day trip. I will never get used to it. We lived in University Heights and Hillcrest for many years. Even though I am new to piggies, my husband already thinks I'm a nut.

Neutered boars must be kept away from females for 4 weeks to ensure the sperm die off. I don't know how long your guy has been neutered but I wanted to put that in here for clarification.

It was definately more than four weeks. They have actually calmed down and act like a little old married couple now. I did double check with the Humane Society where I adopted him from and they said if they ended up having babies they would take them. I do know that piggies get adopted very fast from there so I am not as worried as I was before. Thank you for your input.

Hm, I agree with everything except the story you told your son. Why not tell him a simple truth? As in: "They are trying to make babies, it's what male and female pigs do but we'd rather not have ten baby pigs here cause we can't feed them all." Simple as that, and honest.

yeah but he's only 4 years old and I just think that is too young to be explaining that to him.

Ok - I am freaked out! We got a neutered male from the pound. I think he was neutered on 4/14 and we got him on 4/23. 2 of our girl pigs are spayed, but 1 isnt. He chases them all around and tries to mate...but, I really hope that he didnt get the unaltered one pregnant. We didnt know they had to wait 4 weeks!!

Oh gosh!

Have you seperated them now? It will protect your female if she isn't already pregnant.

When my boar was first neutered, he was trying to mount and chase so much that I really wanted to separate them. The girls seemed so annoyed. Now, I occassionally (like maybe once every week or more) see him try to mount but it has drastically decreased. If you wait it out, I bet he'll either lose interest or give up a bit.
