Unusual Behavior

From what I've read on this forum, most GPs don't climb or jump high. My GP is a male about 8 months old. He has a shelf in his cage, instead of using the ramp he jumps up to the shelf it's about 7 inches high. Also, during playtime I was using a 10 inch foldable wire fence. Recently, he figured out he can scale it, he reaches up and climbs over. Up and Over to escape. Looking at the open cavy cages, mine will be a closed version. Is this really unusual behavior or is he just an athlete??

Re: Unusual Behavior

Hey Poohbear :)

My baby boy Chet is just over 7 weeks old & I have seen him jump over the side & into a box that is 8.5 inches high with a slipery cardboard side (he was trying to get out of his makeshift run... not into the box, which was part of the wall!) :D

Re: Unusual Behavior

Oh yeah... & when I'm holding him he climbes up my clothes to my shoulder to snuggle under my hair :D

my girls

my girls are around 4 mos old and their cage is made of 12" tall play pens and chloroplast. I've seen my girls jump the walls to get back into their cage. However they've never jumped out. Almost makes me think they love their home :D (teehee)

more unusual behavior

okay,
oscar is a 10 week old male. he likes to hide on my wifes shoulder in her hair too.

he has a couple other things going on- seems he is claiming her as his own- he pees on her almost every time she is holding him. as for me? he really likes to chew on my beard.

WOW!
i have two girls and they never try to jump or climb!
im sure they could get out of their play area if they tried!
the most jumping ive seen is when popcorning and candy once jumped onto a pile of shredded newspaper. well it was more like a hop!

Re: more unusual behavior

all my piggies climb, Clorox most when it comes to getting to my shoulder. However for some reason my eldest, Science [ female ] likes climbing all over the couch. She's more amused by slopes and hills, it seems.

Domino though IS a jumper. He has a plastic stack-shelf [ one of those white shelves that when tipped over it's like a big "box" with an "entrance" in the middle ] that he loves more than his igloo for the simple fact that when something's happening that he wants to see he pushes it to the closest cage wall and hops up ontop. He's been known to sit there for hours, or even repeatedly move the box, jumping back up and down until it's in the perfect spot.

So I guess it's not that odd, but you have to admitt, it's a funny sight with such short little legs.
