Hello everyone, You may know already that I adopted two girl Guinea Pig's from my friend about a month ago. They are settling in, health is fine, had them checked out tonight by the vets while getting their curled over nails clipped back:(! Me and my mum weighed all of the piggies about a week ago, and Lori and Lottie both weighed between 600 - 650g, they have all the food regularly, fresh hay everyday, but they vet said it'll take a couple of months but just carry on with what were doing and they'll be fine and gradually put on weight, but I was just wondering if anyone knows of any food or anything that can add weight on more than other fruit/veg? Just wondering, so thank you for your help. :)

Hi,
That's great that you adopted the little ones :)
My boy Ling, he weighs less than 600 grams. He's about 550 or less. But then again, that's his normal weight and he's been like that since I got him, so I think h'e's just a small pig.
If your girls go under 500 grams I would be inclined to worry. But I highly doubt that will happen now in your care :) As they have come from completely different circumstances than my pigs they may be a bit light of weight and needed fattening.... Or that could be their normal weight. You won't know for sure unless you weigh them weekly which I gather your already doing.
I sadly can't give you any fattening tips, but I just thought I'd reassure you that's all ;)
Don't worry about their weight too much.
Good luck!!!

Thank you anyway! Lori is the smallest out of the two, and i guess that might just be her normally weight now hearing your story! Will keep feeding them the regular fruit/veg and pellets and hay and hopefully they might fatten them up, but if not I guess that might just be their normal weight:) If the weight does drop, dont worry! They'll be straight down to the vets! Thank you again:)

How old are your piggies? As they grow older they gain weight :) If they are young, 600-650g isn't even that bad and there is a chance that they will gain more as they grow - but it also depends on their overall health.

How old are they? some pigs are just small. If they're only a few months old that sounds fine.

You could try offering them an extra scoop of pellets every now and then to help them put weight on.

I've bought some Burgess Pellets (The orange packet) Too add to their Wagg food, which they are all used to being on, going to transition them onto the Burgess gradually to see if that helps. Thank you everyone.

And as I adopted them, having 2 homes before me, i'm thinking around 1 - 2 years old, small - reasonable size, not as big as Lily + Her hair! I did know of them before I got them, as when my friend adopted them off of their first owner I knew of them when we went to have a look for my friend to have them. So thinking in between 1 - 2 years.
