Trouble with bedding

I am having a little trouble with bedding. In my piggies cage my layers go
Hospital chuck pad (BIG wee wee pad for humans)
2towels
Fleece
Now my question is why is the fleece still staying wet/damp? The towels are wet and the wee wee pad is, but when you touch it, its not. So then I took the towels out and lay the fleece on the wee wee pads and the fleece doesn't stay as wet. So is it ok not to have the towels in there and just use the pads and fleece? Or am I just stressing over this because I am new to using fleece?

Did you prepare the fleece before you used it? If you wash & dry it 3-4 times before using it the first time, it helps it wick (pull down) the moisture to the absorbant layer underneath (towels, uhaul pads, puppy pads, etc) and the surface will stay dry.

Also, do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets as these will promote the moisture to stay on top of the fleecec.

I washed them but not that many times. So maybe that is the problem then? I need to wash the fleece a few more times?

I would but make sure not to use fabric softener or dryer sheets. Some people use white vinegar in the wash instead of fabric softener to prevent static cling.

And the towels are older ones so they should be fine. And no I haven't use fabric softener or dryers sheets. Maybe I will just wash the fleece. Do I wash and dry and wash and dry? Or just wash wash dry at the end?

Do a full wash/dry cycle. So wash & dry....wash & dry....wash & dry....wash & dry. That should help but also make sure the towels are washed separately because you should still use fabric softener with them.

Ok thank you so much. I will do this tonight. Thanks

You're welcome! My pleasure :)

Why must the towels still have fabric softener used on them?

because they still need to absorb the moisture and it keeps the static cling at bay.

I figured since the residue left behind from fabric softener prevented the fleece from wicking, it would also compromise the towels absorbency. I personally don't use fabric softener on my towels and my fleece is bone dry.

I do use copious amounts of vinegar, though.

Yeah, the vinegar does seem to help
