Before taking my afternoon nap (I work 3rd shift), I told the family that I had put 4 bottles of water in the freezer and when they were frozen to take out 2 of them and wrap them in a towel for the "girls".

Now mind you our family is a 33 yo, 14 yo and a 7 yo. Woke up and the 7 yo says Tasha and Carly are nice and cool Nana. Great! Who helped you Pey? No one, I did it. Bless his heart, he had put all 4 bottles in but that's alright.

Remember to keep those fuss babies cool.

We have central air conditioning, so we don't have to worry about them getting too hot ! We are so very lucky !

Although, we have to move soon, ( in two months !) so who knows if we will be fortunate enough to find a home that has central air again. I really hope so, and that will certainly be a priority for us.

We have been living here for 11 1/2 years, so the next several weeks are going to be really stressful. Our 10 year old daughter won't be able to go to the Y for camp this summer either, so she is pretty distraught over that. She has a lot of good friends here in the neighborhood too, that she will really miss. My poor tweety ! She is such a GOOD responsible young lady too.

How old are your girls ? ( piggies) How long have you had them ? Do they get along well ?

I have two lovely girls myself, Cuddles and Buttercup and they are 6 months old.

I still haven't turned the air on here in Missouri but my piggies have started napping outside their hidey houses more. How warm is too warm and what signs do I need to keep an eye out for? I'd say it's been about 80 for the last couple of days but we're getting a good breeze through the house and the ceiling fans are on. I pull the shades down when the sun gets to that side of the house. Is there anything else I should do for them? Bugsy & Wiley need all the help you can give me. ;)

Kathaaron - We have cental air too. Lets see, it's everywhere (so I guess it's central), it's air (yep we're still alive) and it's conditioned ( windows opened at night). LOL

Here in WI where this year our Spring was slow starting (had frost warnings just 3 days ago), it's now 83 deg with humidity of 76%. I hate high humidity!

Tasha and Carly are around 16 months. Tasha is like the older sister. She's afraid of nothing and Carly will talk to her if there's something new or different in or around their cage. it's so sweet to hear them "talking" back and forth. They get along about 99% of the time - coming into heat is the 1% where it's a guess who's going to be the boss for the day.

Mom2zct - When is too hot? I figure if I'm getting hot and crabby, the girls are hot and right now it's 79 in the house.

So, there's a boxfan on the floor (the cage is 2 ft off the floor) and 2 bottles of frozen water covered with a towel in the cage. These are switched out 2 times a day. You can also use a slab of marble. But with the water bottles, the pigs will lick the moisture off the bottle.

They should be in a room that has a stable temperature between 65-75 degrees. Here is the link to that information:https://www.guinealynx.info/housing.html

Here are some ideas for cooling off your piggies:

1. Hard plastic freeze packs, wrap in a towel
2. Freeze plastic bottles, wrap in a towel
3. Flat square kitchen tiles
4. For long haired piggies, trim off excess hair for their comfort, not for beauty ! (Heeheehee)
5. Shallow 1 inch, small "swimming pools" always supervised, of course !

Well that is all I can think of right now, I am sure many others would be able to add some ideas too !
