Need quick tips for persuading mom to let me make a 2x4 c+c cage. Notes:

-we have cubes. lots of them.
-I've found many VERY LOCAL correx (coroplast) sellers, with websites/phone numbers

I've made a newspaper cut-out of the floor plan of the cage. Basically so mom can visualize better the size of the cage. I put it on the table where the current petstore cage is, and it fits near perfectly.

I'll admit that their current cage is a little smaller then a 2x3 cage. thus meaning the new cage isnt 'that much bigger' then the current one. My mom said this, and once she sees the newspaper cut-out she'll say it again. I need some arguements for this. The added room will make a difference. I also want to add a second floor eventually so will mention that and want to buy extra correx.

Any ideas? its friday, so my mom could call the correx place and we could have it buy tomorrow, or next week.

Silly parents, they think they know better then you guys :p

Print off, or have your mom read from the screen, all the reasons why a C&C cage is better. The home page of this site is enough to convince most anyone.

Make sure your mom knows that there are many parents on this site. I am a mom to two kids 10 and 7. The C&C cage was my idea.

Your mom is welcome to come on this site and ask questions herself if she likes. I always recommend that. This way she knows all the whats and whys and she can look at the cage gallery and see just how nice the cages can look.

already did that. it did help.

Shes been on the site before, I'll show her the how to make pages and such. Shes thinks its really complicated.

It's definitely not complicated. I made a 2x4 and trust me, if I can do it, anyone can do it. The piggies are so much happier with more room.

All of my kids are grown and I am the grandmother of a 3 year-old and an 8 year-old. The piggers are mine and I want them to be happy, so I built them a 2 by 3 and 1/2 cage and have two lofts in it. One loft is a 24" x 18" and the other is a 24" by 12". I don't have ramps for the lofts yet but will soon. My son-in-law is an electrition and he is going to bring me some left over 4" pvc pipe from construction sites to use for the ramps. He is even going to cut it in half lengthwise for me. It is not hard to make the cages either. I had to bend 2 grids in half to make corners and it wasn't hard at all. My girls are much happier in their new cage and I would recommend one for anyone with piggers. I find them much easier to clean also.

Thank you all.

My mom called one of the correx suppliers and was taken back by their willingness to give us some off-cut for cheap..and the good news: we're picking it up tomorrow morning! Wooo!

Shes also agreed to let me make a loft too. As long as I do it all correctly then I'm allowed :) Will be picking up tomorrow morning, then going to b&q on the way back to pick up some zip ties. Then I'll be constructing it in the afternoon.

I cant wait for the piggies to see it! They'll love it. Mojo LOVES ramps/lofts.

Yea! The piggies win again!

Victory for the pigs! I too remember making a newspaper plan to show my mum how big it would be. Let's just say she was a little shocked...

Woohoo! Long live the pigs!lol I'm glad your mom let you! I'm getting supplys for my first C&C cage tommorow too!

Glad to see your persistence paid off, and that your Mom was willing to work with you. Once she sees how easy it easy to make the cage, and how much happier the guinea pigs are, your Mom will be glad she came around. Your piggers are gonna LOVE their new digs!

It was actually hard to make the cage, well for me...it took me hours. But on my own.

My mom is happy now as she sees how happy the piggies are!

That's great! Congrats! Would love to see pictures when you have a chance. I am a mom with a 4 year old. Our piggies and the c&c cage was totally my idea. My husband was not hip to it at all but I did it anyway :)

Cool! You will need to line it with something for traction. I use fleece on mine with about 8-10 binder clips to hold it on. That way, I can easily take it off and change it for when I do laundry.
