How many of you have had success with this? Is a 2x7 big enough? And how much more does it cost, etc. Also, I have one adult pig(over a year) and one five month old boy, what age should I look for?

I'm gonna be putting three poys in a 2X5. I really don't see why everyone thinks boys need more space. Then again all three of them haven't been in together. The 2x5 will have to work until I convince my gramma or my mom to get me more coro or grids. I would only make it a 2X6 once more grid extra than what is reccommended. I have noticed any more cost, except maybe for veggies.
I hope a 2by 5 would be sutible unless you wan't to go all out and make a 2X7.

Well, I already have a 2x7, so I was just wondering.

well yeah that would be great

Hey Dagwell, does it cost extra? How old are your boys?

I have the 4 sows. I actually haven't noticed much of an increase in costs of taking care of them over having 2. The only thing I have found I spend more money on now are pellets. I had a slight increase on the cost of veggies, but it wasn't a lot because I buy a larger variety of veggies for them than I used to.

The reason boar's need larger cages is because they usually tend to be a bit larger than sows and if they aren't getting along well on a particular day then they each have their own large space to get away from the other in.

Any other comments? I highly doubt my mom will let me get another boar, but I've fallen in love with all of these shelter animals, and I'm dying to adopt one!

WHat age should I adopt them if I have one adult and one five month old?

I hope others will post their ideas on age, but if it were me, I would go with an older boar, maybe around 1 1/2-2 years of age. If you get another young boar there may be more dominance issues when they get older since you have a pretty young boar already.

I have two boys about the same age as your boys, Atticus is 21 weeks and Dagwell is about a yeaer and a half. Chewie is about the same age as Dagwell if you go by size i'm not sure of either of there ages. I have had to buy maybe three or four more dollars of veggies. Other than that no change at all. I think it will be better when they are all in the same cage though.

I'm kind of bummed that I have two boys. I'm hesitant to add more boys to the mix because of the chances of having personality problems. I should have gotten one boar, had him fixed and then sneaked sows into the house whenever my hubby wasn't looking.

P.S. he does that with model airplanes so I figured it would be fair. ;)

But there is just of big a chance of a male not getting along with a female and a male not getting along with a male. It's is all the pig's personality, not just the sex.

I have 4 boys living together. One is 3years and the others are 6months. They seem to get on better than the girls do.

I would say adopt a young and old piggie that way you won't have two young pigs squabbling when they mature.

Gd luck!
