I have lots of space for a guinea pig and I know that I'm going to get one, but Im wondering: I want to get at least two, maybe three cavies and should I get all boys or all girls? I might just get two, in which case should it be boys OR girls? but if I get three does it HAVE to be just girls?

You could get 1 nuetered male and a few females.

You can have either all girls or all boys. Some people think girls get along easier, but many people have several boys together with no problems.

If you want boys and girls together, you can have at most 1 boy and you'll have to spend the money to get him fixed.

You could rescue an already nuetered male.

I would start out with one and then work your way up. That is just my opinion

There's no point in just having one, then getting more. You can get:

3 girls
3 boys
1 neutered male and 2 girls

Look into adopting rather than buying from a petstore

Definitely try to get two or three guinea pigs. Also, in my mind just having one sex is the easiest to do because you don't have to go through the pain of altering the male. Unless you find an already altered male in a rescue, than I say go for it! But remember one rule of thumb: Only one boar per cage! Good luck finding your piggies!

well, if you get soooooo many, what happens if you are allergic or can not keep them or if you get three you do not realise how much work is needed. You always can get more later down the road.

im thinking about getting a guinea pig too. i think i will stick to getting one pig for now, and i will start from there.

Kizerk, are you thinking of building a cubes and coroplast cage?

yea, i am in south cali, i will adopt if they have a young one, i want a young one, since they're easier to tame. i do plan on building a c&c cage, i just have to find a place that sells the coroplast, i think my dad will get it for me though

but i have to save up all that money, and all the research

The adults are usually already tame. I have some young fosters and they are wild. There are piggies of all shapes and sizes for adoption.

On the main cavy cages website there is a place where you an see where cubes and coroplast is available near you. That is where I found out where I could get mine, and also add to it if you find yours somewhere else.

My neigbors rescued a gorgeous PEW peruvian adult male from a rescue, and he was the most sweet-tempered and beautiful boy. Yes, some young cavies might be easier to tame, but most adults are already tamed.

I agree, I am currently fostering an adult male(unknown age) and he is the calmest thing ever! I have 10 pigs and he is calmer than them, and most of those pigs have been with me basically their entire life!

Please adopt an adult! It's a big myth that they can't be tamed, because most already are.
