Chat Things you've learned as a cavy owner

Let's make a list of all the things we have learned from and about our piggies and this forum. Feel free to repeat ones that have already been listed as much as you want. I'll start.

I've learned that...

1. Guinea pigs are also called cavies.
2. What I thought was purring was actually rumbling.
3. Popcorning piggies are adorable.
4. Some pigs like burrowing.
5. I don't like when pigs burrow.
6. Uhaul pads are apparently good absorbant layers.
7. You can never have too much fleece.
8. Like really, never.
9. Ever.
10. Hershey gets really excited over simple things.
11. Some pigs like to eat things that aren't food.
12. Watching pigs eat is the best thing in the world.
13. It feels so good to have a pig flop down on your lap and sleep.
14. Guinea pigs can't have nuts or seeds.
15. Lots of guinea pig treats have nuts or seeds.
16. They can't have leashes or harnesses either.
17. Or balls.
18. Or wheels.
19. Pet stores will do anything for money.
20. Including selling pregnant pigs.
21. Baby piggies are adorable.
22. All piggies are adorable.
23. It breaks your heart to have to give away baby piggies.
24. But it heals it when you know you can keep one.
25. Happy piggy = happy hooman.

Ah, this may be a really long list... well, here it goes:
1.Guinea pigs are also called cavies.

7. I hate the way Pet Stores work.
8. Guinea pigs are stunning little animals with many mysteries.

10. Guinea pigs have hair, not fur.
11. I absolutely adore guinea pigs.
12. Pet store treats are bad for guinea pigs.
13. Guinea pigs can't have nuts or seeds.
14. I don't like breeders.
15.There are guinea pig rescues.
16.Other guinea pig lovers are so nice.
17. You can use fleece for bedding.
18. Pet store cages are way too small.
19. Guinea pigs can't live in aquariums.
20. There is this thing called a C&C cage.
21. It is not right to breed guinea pigs.
22.There are guinea pig shows.
23.Guinea pigs teeth are constantly growing.
24. I love to look at baby guinea pigs.
25. Guinea pigs are amazing.

Ehem, mine is sad, but I'm not afraid to admit that I was wrong, so here it is...
1- It is wrong to breed
2- Shows are wrong
3- harneses and leashes can damage their backs
4- Never, ever buy from the pet store
5- Adopt don't shop
6-c&c cages are better then outdoor cages

1. Guinea Pig Cages is the BEST site ever and I am forever grateful for what @CavySpirit has put together to help us be the best guinea pig slaves we can be!! I have 3 happy pigs of my own and 2 foster pigs that have much better lives thanks to this site/forum.

3. they need a bigger cage ( I haven't been able to provide a bigger cage yet )

Here are 10 things I learned when I got piggies:

1) Never, ever buy one from a pet store.
2) Adoption rocks.
3) Always have at least two piggies and make sure your cages is big enough.
4) Have a cavy savvy vet lined up before you get your pig, and take your pig to the vet on the first suspicion of a problem.
5) One of the first things pigs learn is how to wheek at the sound of the fridge.
6) First you'll wish for tame piggies; then you'll wish your piggies weren't so tame that they're always in your face when you try to clean, feed, etc.
7) Guinea pigs are adorable.
8) Guinea pigs are calming.
9) You can't help but smile at a piggy sitting up for a treat, a popcorning piggy, or a piggy train.
10) If you're an adult with guinea pigs, your friends will think you're a bit nuts...but they know you have a menagerie anyway so it doesn't surprise them.

You become a fleece hoarder when you find it on sale or all the great prints come out during winter.

The things I've learned.....1) how varied and important thier diet is.2) they have different tastes.3) how much room they need.4) thier herd animals and need a friend.5) how important it is to pay attention and get to know them to know when thier not feeling well.6) what the different sounds and gestures mean.7) to me the most special thing I've learned is they have individual personalities and how great it is when you realize it and they bond with you
