As many of you have heard about my ongoing lecture, I have an update to it. Most of you probably consider me "A Little Kid Who Has Gone Nuts". I'm not a kid, really. I know responsibility and am very hardworking. Most of you here have guinea pigs and C&C cages also, what ever the cage size or how much you hate cleaning out the piggies, count yourself lucky. You have no idea what I would give to give my bunny the best care possible, but my parents just don't understand. I'll begin my story:

I joined this site about 5 months ago, addicted to the C&C cages and wanting one badly. Since that day, I have been doing research on guinea pig care, contributing to forum threads, looking at cage ideas, making plans, and notebooks filled with thoughts and ideas. During that time, I also sold off most of my old toys to earn extra money to buy one.

My pet, is a rabbit named Skippy. He is a 11 mo unaltered lop male. He is the cutest thing ever, and came into our family 8 months ago after we lost our first bunny, Nibbles, at the age of 2.5. He was my first rabbit and it killed me to lose him. He used to lick my hand, and was the best thing in the world. He passed away on April 11,2011 due to fur clogging his oxygen passage. I remember holding him that night, cradling him as he struggled to breathe. I was very worried, but my mum sent me off to bed and said she would sit with him. So off I went. Later that night, she came into my room and snuggled into bed with me. After a long time, she said in tears, "Krysia, he passed away about an hour ago." So we sat there, crying the whole night. After a couple days had passed, I approached her and told her I missed the companionship of a pet. So she looked, and there on CraigsList, we found the exact duplicate of him, so we went and picked him up on April 14, two days away from my half birthday. Skippy is happily living with us to this day.

The summer passed quickly and towards the end of it I discovered this site. I really wanted a C&C cage badly, so I begun researching it. A couple weeks ago, I found this lady on CraigsList selling off her C&C cage. So we inquired, and came to pick it up. She had included 4 sheets or coroplast, 50 connectors, 44 grids, a ramp, and some plastic sheets all for $50. Now I bet most of you think it's the luckiest deal yet, but I'll have to tell you wrong. The lady had covered up rips in the coroplast with duct tape as if to look like it was holding the separate sheets of coroplast together. I only discovered this when I got home, but I couldn't argue, because I got the grids and connectors at a good deal. So, I spent three hours peeling off the stubborn packaging tape, then another hour and a half just using GlueGone on the very stubborn sticky parts. Then, I had to brush it off, as it was covered in some kind of black pet hair, probably a dog's. As for the ripped ends, I just cut them off as there was plenty of coro to spare. Today, my Dad and I used the vinegar and water mix and cleaned it up so it will be ready for cutting. As for the grids and connectors, the connectors were a whiz and dried very quick. The grids took a little more elbow grease, but were is good shape. I filled my bathtub with water and added some dish soap. I let the grids soak for about 10 minutes, then rinsed them off with my shower. As of today, Ive got halfway throughout washing the grids. As for my ongoing lecture, I was looking for a place to relocate my new cage. I currently am using a Large Super Pet cage for my bunny, which is about a gird and a half in length and a grid wide. After discovering this site, I found that this cage is incredibly small for him and he needs to get a C&C cage ASAP. As he is currently located in my bathroom ( we do not use my bathroom and haven't in 2 years so there is no humidity :) ), it only allows a small size. I wanted to relocate and find a new location for my new cage. So I explored all of the possibilities, no basement, probably not my room, and ended up with the guest room. I measured everything out and it fits a 2 x 5 perfectly, as my bathroom only fits a 1 x 3. I really wanted to use it and wrote my mum a long letter in cursive about how I wanted to use it and the benefits of it, and the extents I would take to protect the walls and carpets. She is stuck on her idea on using the bathroom and will not budge. She may let me use my room, but it would take up over half of it and I would havemto sacrifice a book area and desk. There is no other suitable spot in our house as we have a destructive 2 yo running around the house. Also, she added that we would need the bedroom for the 2 yo, as he cannot share with my other brother. I feel really bad that I am keeping him in this awfully small cage. Rehoming him is not an option, whatever happens. I really need some advice and any would be appreciated as this has been a very hard time and decisions for me. Wheuf! Done with that lecture. :) Anyways, thanks for reading, and I couldn't have done anything without you guys and your suggestions. Thank You so much.

If you do not use the bathroom, could your rabbit have free range in the bathroom? You could put the petstore cage in so he can go in and out of the cage, but then have the rest of the bathroom to roam. The bathroom door or doors could be kept close so the 2 year old can not go in.

Fortunately, he is kept in the bathroom because the 2 yo knows he cannot go in there, otherwise he would benin BIG trouble. I could put his playpen all around the bathroom area, blocking off the toilet. Good Idea, Thank You! :)

I think a small foot print of a cage would be fine and in your room. With rabbits you can go up if you can't go long. That's OK, they will use the space. Could you do a 2x3x3 like we talked about last night and still keep your desk? That to me would be the best option. He is still a small rabbit, judging from the pictures I have seen I would say about 7 lbs. That size cage should be plenty of space for him. Once you get him fixed things will be a lot easier. He'll be able to hop around in your room (once it's rabbit proofed) and not poo on everything.

Either that or allowing him the bathroom. I did that when I was in high school. I had my own bathroom in my room. I put up a baby gate when I wasn't home and when I was home the rabbits had free range of my room.

Unfortunately, my bathroom is not connected to my room. :( But I could try the 2 x 3 or might be able to fit a 2 x 4 multiple level for him. I will think more on it also, but I'm off to bed now. Thank You! :)
