Tinkerbell (the hamster) got out of her cage today and when I went looking for her she had crawled into Fifi's(the cavy) cage. (Fifi has the normal spaced grids for her cage). They touched noses then Fifi followed Tinkerbell around the cage until I took her out. They can each get away from the other. Right now, I'm trying some floor time and Fifi is just following Tinkerbell around. Is there anything wrong with this?

Awwww.... That's kind of cute that they get along so well. I think it would be OK as long as you were constantly or most of the time keeping an eye on them.

I agree with piggielover. If they seem to get along then maybe you could let them out together sometimes & keep an eye on them. I think it depends on the hamster mostly, seeing how they're pretty solitary.

I tried five minutes of floor time once with my first guinea pig & my first hamster (dwarf hamster.) My guinea pig loved it & kept following her around, but she seemed scared of him & tried to hide. So, I never tried it again. (It would have been really cute if they had liked each other though).

I would be extremely careful! I personally wouldn't try it with my hamsters just because I know the damage they could do to each other.

aww cute. I tried that once with my teddy bear hamster and Buddy. But neither took any interest in each other.

I think 1 of my piggs, Buddy is a stick in the mudd lol. He doesn't like floor time he just goes in a hut and sits usually (once in a while though I catch him popcorning and running). And then if I leave him alone for a while he hops over the grids (by hopping on a hut and them clearing the grids) runs back up to his cage and chews on the grids because he wants back in.
The conclusion I have come to is he loves his C&C cage lol. Sorry had to add my story.

LOL that sounds so funny! I just can't see Fifi jumping anything, especially that high. She's one of those non athletic pigs. I have yet to see her run (she kind of slithers if she's going from one cover to another during floor time) or popcorn. She wheeks/whistles for food now though, which makes me sooooo happy!!!

I've had hamsters, and now I'm on guinea pigs, but I've never had both. That would be really cute if they got along!

Awww that so sweet~! I've never heard about guinea pigs and hamsters getting along so well. All i know about that is that you should never cage them together. = D but its really cute. They'll be best friends for life!!!! lol YAY

Is fifi your only guinea pig?

My friend had her mouse hanging around her pig cages. Just free rang. She wasnt a very good pig owner, though. She didnt clean her pigs cage for like a month. It gets really nasty when you are using newspaper like she was. Her mom finally got fed up and gave them to me. One of her pigs was heavily pregnant. She died about a week after I got her. I think it was pregnancy toxemia from not being cared for correctly. Her boy is such a seetie though. I found him a new home. You can see a pic of him in my gallery if you want.

If was nice of you to take them tasha. Its sad that one died though.

Her death and this site was what really made me relize that I was putting my pigs in danger by breeding them. I have never bred them since, and I will never breed them again.

That's so sad! I'm glad to hear you've changes, tashagurl. I wouldn't keep them together, because I think they could do some serious damage to one another, and they don't speak the same language. That's just me though.
