The fruits and vegetables drawer in my refrigerator

Am I the only one with a fruit and vegetable drawer that is FAR too small? Each week mine is overflowing after I go to the grocery store.

Does anyone have any helpful hints on keeping fruits and vegetables fresher longer? I'm kind of tired of wilty leaves and moldy peaches.

I keep my veggies in plastic containers. I also put a papertowel on the bottom of the container and another on top. I don't even use the drawer for the piggie's veggies anymore. I have the whole bottom shelf in the fridge for the girls' stuff. I really want a small fridge just for them but haven't gotten around to it.

Buy less more often.

I have two drawers for my girls' stuff, but yeah, I have to buy less more often because it often spoils. I too want a small fridge for them because sometimes I find my family members sneaking romaine to use in the dinner salad. Sheesh, get your own veggies!

I buy lots of Fruits and Vegetables, I love variety. It used to drive me nuts to see 1/4 to 1/2 of it molding before I could get it used up. Until I was invited to a Tupperware Party and they have these refrigerator containers called FridgeSmart. I bought a set and now I have stuff lasting weeks longer then it should. Sorry to sound like a commercial:sick:, anyways I plan on buying more of these containers they work great.

Here's a link to them:

I can't seem to get the link to the exact page to work. Its under Refrigerate then second block in at the bottom of the page. Sorry!

I want to say that there are some sort of "greens" bags at Walmart. They are supposed to keep your veggies and stuff way fresh.

I am with ZanyPS. I love the fridgesmarts. We are talking weeks longer than normal, not just days. Just don't wash anything before you put it in them. Dry and naked they say. They are fabulous. I actually removed the crisper drawers in my old place and put them in there. As well in Canada we get our milk in bags so the crisper drawer is good to keep your milk in instead of veggies.

Seriously there is no produce drawer anymore, the whole fridge contains produce!!! Between having the seven pigs and me becoming a vegetarian the firdge is out of control. I feel like there is no place to put anything in there.

The other day I was looking at a magazine and I think it was GE that actually has a fruit and vegetable refridgerator. Tons of produce drawers and different controls to keep the produce more fresh.----I want it!!!!! Hubby just looked at me and said "When our's dies". hee-hee, I tried

Well, at least he didn't say no.

Time to sabatoge your fridge Weaver. We have a small fridge in my study that's full of veggies. I should take a picture of it.

Only because I'm real evil, my mind would already be planning the death of a refrigerator. :shhh: And the new one I wanted would be getting ordered. But then again, I am evil.

My aunt and uncle had a fridge for years that didn't have an icemaker. It was driving my aunt crazy. She didn't necessarily want one with the ice through the door, she just didn't want to fill ice trays. My uncle said that they would get any fridge she wanted when the old one died. Aunt Laraine said that if it didn't die soon, she was going to get his shotgun out of the gun cabinet and kill it herself. They had a new fridge within a week.

I like the sound of your Aunt Laraine.

We have three fridges, one came with the house, it was too small so we bought a new one last October, and then we have a dorm size one upstairs, we originally bought the dorm size one because of those nights where we didn't want to run downstairs for a bottle of water. Now that we have two piggies we use it for veggies. I use containers that you can vaccuum seal. I also use a salad spinner to wash the lettuce. It works great because it spin dries the lettuce so it stays crisp longer.
