The Flu

Hi, I just recently adopted a 4 month old female guinea pig from a Petco (I know those places are horrible, but I did actually adopt her--she was given up by her owners). I just got the flu and read something about not going near your guinea pig when you're sick. Is it true that they will catch your sickness? I have tried very hard not to breathe on her at all and just picked her up once to clean her cage.
I am very paranoid that something's going to happen to her because I've been reading about how delicate and fragile they are. And I also know that I need to get her a bigger cage and also a playmate because they don't like to be alone.
I'm just feeling super guilty.
So...does anyone have experience with handling guinea pigs while you're sick?
Thanks so much!
Sarah

Hi let me be of service.....

Well my guineapigs had the snuffles and snezzes a few weeks ago!!! Colds normally ware off them selves if you take them inside or out of the cold, next to a fire.

What i did was that i force feed my piggies a mushed up vitimin c tablet in a little water, and in a seringe slowly push the mixture into the sides of their mouths.

However, some piggies may struggle like mine so lie them on their back and stoke them softly and speaking quitely to them, saying that they are a good girl/boy.

Some may squeek LOUDLY so open their mouths and tip in the solution slowly.

Them mix more vit c tablet into their food, IF ONLY IN SERIOUS CASES!!!! DONT MAKE THEM EVEN WORSE!!!!

Also make sure that they have plenty of food, water , fruit and green veg.

If the sneezing persists or they lose their bright colour, take the piggie to vets FAST!!!

I hope i have helped, keep me informed of the piggies state of health!!! ;)
