You are doing the right thing. I always talk to my animals before a vet visit, too!!! Even if they don't understand the words, the tone is relaxing for them!!

Hope it goes well,
Marie

Sounds like you're a really caring "slave". lol Nice work, and I hope your piggy is doing well! =)

you're neutering them for your own sake, but not for the gp's sake. and you talked to your gp pretending it understands you, and you're doing this to make you feel better, so you won't feel bad. how would you like it when you get neutered?

Neutering is a wonderful thing to do if you are planning to house your boar with sows. Here is a link with some great information on what to expect and how to take care of your pig after the surgery. Good luck!

Ca-Na is wrong. You are doing the right thing by getting him neutered. And if talking to your pig makes both of you less nervous, go for it!!!

The right decision is seldom the easy choice. That applies to all aspects of life.

Your pig will be fine, and don't second guess your choice!!!

you neuter him just for your own benefits. how would you like it when you get neutered just so you can get along with another female or to prevent you and the female from breeding? The guinea pig has no way of understanding your talking. You might think he understands it, but he doesn't. Why dont you go and get another guinea pig of the same sex. If you know you have to neuter him, then dont get him at all. It's just like "don't feed them what you cant eat!" So that means dont do something that you would not like it to be done the same to you. I got that quote from one of the person in this forum, i forgot who.

It's no different than my getting my tubes tied to prevent pregnancy. I feel fine about it!!!

There are way too many homeless, unwanted, neglected animals out there. Why add to the problem when there are ways to prevent the overpopulation of animals?

thats why you dont buy, adopt or obtain the opposite sex if you dont want to have babies!! ok you want to compare the society...just because we want to prevent people from having sex, doesnt mean we go and neuter them without their consent!!! you have your giving birth prevention thing because you agreed to it. What about guinea pigs? they dont understand or can communicate with you, so how can you know if the gp agreeds or not? yea, ok you talked with the gp about it, and he just going to look at you like you speaking an alien language. You're just doing this talking to make you feel better, to not make you feel bad. You're doing it for your own sake, not for the guinea pig's sake. If you want to do it for the guinea pig's sake, dont buy the opposite sex and put them together!! think, think, think people!!! You people talked about how much you love them, how much you have to make bigger cages for their goods. And that we shouldn't make small cages for a quick cleaning because this would be benefiting for us and not for them... LIES LIES because now you neutering themf or your own good, not for them... "dont do something to guinea pigs that you dont want it to be done to you."

Guinea Pigs do not make the conscious choice to have sex. They BREED out of instinct, that is part of what separates us from the animal world. They have no concept of the impact of their young. They don't even care for them more than a month or so. Guinea pigs don't posess reasoning skills, humans do. That's why WE care for THEM and not the other way around.

then dont say stuff like making bigger cages for their own goods, and not just worry about our own goods of cleaning the cages easier. and dont say stuff like dont do to them what you wouldnt do to yourself. thats hypocrit.

to each his/her own

we can do what we want it's are money and most of us are grown up it don't matter what other people think.........

With all the modern procedures and precautions in place, neutering really isn't such a big deal. Better to neuter a pig and give him female buddies than to have it live alone. That's what we did with our snuggles. He loves his two girlfriends.

But, if one is neuter-shy, just keep boars or sows, not both.

That's why you dont buy, adopt, or obtain the opposite sex and put them together, duh. It's a common sense. You can pair them up with 2 females, or 2 males. I have been saying this over and over, jesus christ!

And what I'm saying is that the surgery is not damging or life-threatenng in almost all cases. And the long term benefits outweigh the disadvantages.

Guinea pigs areunlike humans in that they really don't miss the testicles. Their behavior remains unchanged.

Lastly, I don't need someone saying "duh" to me when they spell their username with leet-speak. Please refrain from that in the future. Your opinion is not the only one on here, buddy.

Was using His name really necessary?

We know its common sense but its not always that easy to pair up 2 boars, thats what we've been saying over and over! It is more likely that the boar will get along with a female, so he needs to be neutered. Being neutered isn't a big deal.

Hello? Of course you have to neuter him to stop him breeding? Do we want the shelters overfilling any more?

Jesus christ! Stop neutering the poor little guinea pig! Just because you see him acting the same way with the thingy or not does not mean you can do that to him! It is not hard to pair up 2 boars or sows! God, these people are bad to guinea pigs, I can't believe this.

How is neutering a male piggie a bad thing?.

You mean to tell me you would rather see a male or female piggie that possibly dosen't get along with other samed sexed piggies after countless tries, suffer from loneliness, than have them spayed or neutered so that they can enjoy the company of the opposite sex without having babies as the outcome?. If you ask me, that's cruel.

Countless of piggies are put up for adoption or put on forums like CraigList looking for homes because they didn't get along with their cage mates because they took advice from people like you, saying that it's not hard to pair up two of the same sexed piggies is like saying that there isn't a problem with homeless piggies finding a home.

Do us all a favor, before you go around throwing bad advice, do some actual research (leave all those petshop books alone, and do some actual reading over at Guinealynx.com or over at cavyspirit.com for the steps used to pairing up piggies).

Get a grip on yourself. I doubt the pigs even know they've been neutered. My husband's been "neutered" and he sure can't tell the difference. I have two boars so they're not neutered but that's because I didn't want to spend that kind of money in order to have a mixed pair. All sorts of animals are neutered and it is a humane thing to do and prevents overpopulation. In sows it even prevents health problems that can occur in pregnancies of older sows. Please educate yourself before ranting and raving on a topic.
