I'm new here, and have just got my two boys almost 2 weeks ago. This forum has been so very helpful in answering so many of my questions that I had before I adopted the boys and even more helpful now that their in our home.

I've attached a sketch of a bug I found on my Strype (magnified many times) and have identified it as piggie lice (ewww). I'm off to the vet tomorrow to buy Advantage!

Good luck and make sure you treat both piggies.

Congrats on the piggies, we would love to see pictures.

Advantage or Revolution may be much cheaper online. You would have to check.

Chocolate Chip is the piggie in my av. And here's Strype!

They are both adorable! Congrats on the piggies and for finding the lice so they can be treated.

Went to the vet today to get lice meds. They didn't believe me it was lice... so I came home, stuck a piece of scotch tape on Strype's back and brought them some. Now they believe me!

But they'd never heard of using Advantage to treat lice and so prescribed invermectin.

They also cautioned me about trusting everything I read online. So does anyone here know of a cavy-wise vet in my area? Anything between Winnipeg and Dryden would be close enough for me to take the trip.

Looks like you do not have a cavy savvy vet. Ivermectin does not treat lice. Go call them and make them give you advantage for free or get your money back or something.

or order advantex for puppies or kittens at 1800petmeds.com and ask the vet for your money back

Advantex is not recommended. Use Revolution or Advantage.

I called the vet back. She said she would have been willing to give me Advantage, but was unable to find any dosing info in her books, and so chose invermectin as that's what she's had success with in the past. She suggested giving the invermectin a go and if things don't look better, she asked me to print out the dosing info I could find on GuineaLynx as she does not have an internet connection. She said what they have is Advantage Plus - does anyone know if the dosing would be the same (or if the "plus" is safe for piggies) as for Advantage?
