tried three times to post a testamonial to the main page and could not get through. just wanted to thank whoever runs the site. we bought 3 new pigs last wednesday and they are now happily ensconced in a beauty of a C&C cage which only cost me $25 to make. thanks so much.

I think you shouldn've considered adopting rather than buying. Oh well.

You know, both of our dogs were adopted from the humane society. For some reason I never thought you could adopt guinea pigs. It wasn't until after I bought these pigs that I read about adoption as an option. We will go that route if we ever need to get new pigs, which hopefully won't be for many years.

I have a couple of questions regarding the amount of veggies to give the pigs everyday. I have also read conflicting reports regarding the use of vitamin supplements in their water. Is this needed?

Thanks in advance for any help.

steph.

No, you don't need to put anything in their water, and it may even put them off drinking if it affects the flavour. It's not an effective way of delivering vitamins anyway, as most don't last long in water, and you don't know how much they're going to drink.

A good cavy pellet (Oxbow for example) and fresh veggies should give them all the vitamins they need. I supplement vitamin C in times of illness, but if I do, I give it directly - never in to the drinking water.

Have a look at this page on nutrition https://www.guinealynx.com/nutrition.html - it should tell you all you need to know about what to feed them.
