Amen

I think you will find that you are the only person here who finds this thread amusing. No one here finds breeders of any description a laughing matter.
You are simply demonstrating your immaturity, when you do.

As I started this thread I thought I should inform everyone as to how the situation is now. The lady has contacted me and expressed her feelings about how she was looking after the animals. Now she has asked me to take the guinea pigs/not sure about the rabbits.
So I am going to take the poor babies in and get them back to full health. I will then find suitable homes for them. In the event I can't I will keep them myself. At least they will have a loving home. I know most people on this site will say she will just get more, but call me naieve I believe that she knows she is wrong.
I offered her to look at my cages and all the setup and she was overwhelmed by my dedication to the animals.

As the piggies are housed mixed sex there is a high chance there will be babies on the way. Mum has told several people that I have rabbits and guinea pigs(word spreads) and a few people have expressed thier interest in adopting a new fur baby. I dont breed but when I get unwanted guinea pigs/rabbits I do ask around and quite often I will have people come around expressing real interest. I have had people ask me to look after their piggies, which is fun. I ask them to provide food and they always have good variety. Some people have fallen in love with the C&C cages too, so I have to tell tehm where to find materials.
I always ask people thier names/conatc details and keep them. A few people have asked for a m&f guinea pig and I simply said I didn't have any available. I know they want to breed.

I think its wonderful this lady has stopped, and you have a great heart to let these piggies into your life and home. :cheerful:

If you cannot keep them all and are considering giving them to people make sure you ask all the appropriate questions, make them sign a contract saying they will provide adequate space, will not breed the pigs, provide vetinary care, food and water, and provide a forever home. Inspect the area where they plan to house the cavy, do regular checks of the house each year to ensure they are being looked after.

See www.cavyspirit.com and go to the adoptables section. It gives you an idea on what questions to ask. Goodluck with these piggies keep us updated and I do hope she will not breed again.

That's great! It sounds like the lady was just really missinformed on guinea pig care, good job on educating her. (And you didn't even have to resort to criminal activites ;) )

To start, I got the sexes of the animals wrong. She had two adult male rabbits and a female. She also had two female and two male guinea pigs.
I found out some more news. Her friends was housing(temporarily) the guinea pigs and she was housing the rabbits. While in her friends care one adult male guinea pig died. Also the females had babies. One had 4, 3 died as they were in the sun. The other had one. So I have a 2 week old and a 2 day old baby.
Anyway she brought them all to my house today.

So I gave them all a check over. The two week old was dragging his hindlegs. I imeadiatly thought they may have been broken, I was so upset. After reading through guniea lynx I found it may have been dehydration or a vitamin C definincy. Considering the fact they were housed in the sun, my spirits lifted a bit. So I brought out the veggies and spoon fed water. Presto like magic the little tacker was off running. I was so excited I cried.

When she arrived, she was very upset about thier welfare. I really think it hit her hard when the babies died. I promised her they would be looked after. Then she told me how she was unable to feed them properly and that she wanted a better home for them. She was very dissapointed in her friend too.
I gave them food and water strait away and they dove on it. She admitted they would probably be hungry.

I am so glad the two male rabbits were brought up together, they are extreemly friendly. That makes it a bit easier for me to house them. I am not sure what happened to the female rabbit, I didn't ask.

So the only major problem, is the female guinea pigs may be pregnant again. They were in with the males. I will have to weigh them.
