Is it OK to put Tang in the water (diluted of course) - a friend mentioned that she heard that somewhere - makes the water sweeter to the taste and has Vit. C. Thanks ahead for input.

NO Tang in water. Way too much sugar- almost no vitamin C. Definetilly a no-no. You don't want to put anything in water, no drops, no Tang, no medication.

y not? my pigs don't mind it. They actually drink MORE water when i put vitamin C in it.

Cavies should get ALL the vitamins they need from daily fresh fruit and vegetables. There isnt a need to suppliment these at all. Too many of the suppliments around have a high sugar content which cavies certainly dont need.

I don't want to get too technical, but water dissolves many substances and changes their properties. It's useless to add vitamin c to water.

If they prefer the taste of water with vitamin C in it, I don't see why that should be a problem? But remember that after being dissolved in the water for longer than 30 minutes, it's useless as a vitamin C supplement. It's still necessary to give them fresh vegetables everyday to provide them with enough vitamin C.

The vitamin drops you put in the water have way too many minerals in it to be good for GPs. The minerals can cause bladder stones/sludge, kidney and liver damage and muscle problems.

Like others said the Vit C those drops or other water soluable additives contain is worthless within 30 minutes, but the minerals remain. The thing that makes the GPs drink more is the sugar in the water.

Stay away from the drops and rely on fresh veggies to give them thier extra C. If you are worried they still aren't getting enough C then give them sugar free chewable Vit C tablets in the appropriate doses.

I agree, nothing should be put into the water. I do believe voodoo said what I would have about the sugar, rapid degeneration of the vitamins, and chewables as supplements. Make sure that the chewable tablets don't have anything else in them (colors, flavors, sugar, etc).

Tang has little to no actual Vit C. It is all sugar. No wonder they drink it all up. It's an old method that pet stores recommended.

In addition, the extra sugar can cause diabetes in your guinea pig. This is NOT an item of OPINION. You should NOT put Tang in the water. Period. End of story. Any more posts or recommendations to the contrary will be removed.

The tang is pure sugar? Yuccch. Can cavies get cavities, 'cause they would if they drink suger!

Tang is mostly sugar. I doubt cavies would get cavities bevcause their teeth are continually growing and wearing down. In a healthy pig any decay would be worn off I imagine.

The fact still remain that they are at a high risk of getting diabetes like T said.
