Swollen toe!

I was trimming my pig's nails this morning and saw a toe on my Nova, TWICE the size it should be! I immediately called the vet and I a leaving to go see her in 45 minutes. If this is bumblefoot, I am going to cry. They (2 pigs) are on a 2x6 two level cage, I spot clean everyday, and there is only ONE exposed bar in the cage (on top level) how could this happen?

Good call getting her straight to the vet - hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

Sometimes if they catch a toe on something, because their nails are so strong, the bone in the toe can get injured and even break before the nail does. That happened to one of my pigs a few years ago and I'm still not sure what she can have caught it on. She was walking completely normally though - it didn't seem to be causing her much discomfort. It swelled up slightly for a couple of days and then went down. Provided there's no broken skin, sever swelling or the toe doesn't feel hot, they often heal quite well.

I went to the vet, and it was nothing serious. She said that it was probably an old injury that had swelled up, and said there was no pain, discomfot, or pussing, so it was not bumblefoot. I am going to monitor her closely, though, just to make sure.

Good catch, glad it was nothing serious.
