swollen toe

Tonight when holding one of our pigs, I noticed her back toe is swollen. It's not her foot pad, but the actual toe (all around the nail). It's big and swollen. It doesnt seem to hurt when I touch it and she doesn't seem to be hindered in her movement. I took her out and put some peroxide on it and some anti-biotic lotion, but what else should I do? I figured I'd make a vet appointment if it's not improving in a day or two.

Any suggestions?

If they catch their nail on something, the nails are so strong that the toe can actually break before the nail gives. There's not much that can be done besides give pain relief when there's pain or antibiotics for an infection, but if the swelling is severe, it feels hot or there's any broken skin etc then having the vet check it out would be good. Unless you've been advised by a vet to put a specific antibiotic lotion on it, I wouldn't as it'll most likely be groomed off and ingested which won't do her digestive tract much good.

Hope she's okay.
