Surprise Delivery (with pigtures!)

I came home and this is what I found:



I had thought my Peanut was just chubby since she hadn't gained very much weight recently. Then last week, I felt a lump! We were going to vet to confirm that was pregnant but I think it's just been confirmed!

There's so much to do and so much to research! And I haven't heard back from Petland about what they're gonna do about my knocked-up piggie (I emailed them last week to see what their policy was just in case Peanut was pregnant).

I haven't sexed the baby yet but I'll post as soon as I know. YAY!!!

Here's a picture of the whole gang!

Peanut's the agouti (she's a bit aloof right now. I hope she gets more involved with the baby). Domino is our white girl, who seems to have more maternal instinct than Peanut. And the little one hasn't been named yet, but we hope she grows up to look like Turbo, who we think is the handsomest black piggie around!

Okay everyone, she looks like a girl! I know it's really early to tell, but I think she's a girl. This is the best possible scenario - Peanut only had one pup, and since she's a girl, she can live with her mum and Domino. Yay, yay, yay!

Also, she's not all black. She has a tiny swipe of agouti on her right shoulder and some on her nose. And she has one white toe. One white toe! *grin*

Thanks everyone! For your kind words and for all the info I've learned so far over the last seven weeks. I think I'd be freaking out right now if I didn't feel "armed" with all the knowledge I've learned here and at GL. Okay, I'm still freaking out a little bit. But just a little bit.

I'm not surprised that Petland Corporate office hasn't replied to my email. I didn't expect them to since I'm not there yelling at them in person. I think I'll head down to the closest store next week and speak to the manager.

This was such a bittersweet surprise. The last thing we wanted was to bring another guinea pig into the world but she's here now and she's adorable. Isn't she cute? *gloat gloat*

When I bought my pigs I asked the manager to sex them, even though they were full grown and obviously males. I told him I just wanted to be absolutely sure. Well, he was an idiot, and since he couldn't get their penises to pop out he told me they were GIRLS. I told him I just didn't want babies, and he said something like, "well, if they do, you can just bring them back here." I must have looked at him like he had suddenly grown a second head because he sulked away.

Petland will just say we'll take the babies for free. Here they won't even sex them for people. Not even a guess just in case they are wrong. They also won't allow returns if you don't buy their vitamin supplement for stress. Even when I didn't know much about guinea pigs and bought Cinnamon and Rolo I didn't take them up on their offer.

The same thing happened to me. My Cocoa came from the pet store pregnant, so when I called them to complain about it, they just said not to worry, that they would take the babies when they arrived. Yeah, like I was going to let THAT happen.

I imagine they would think that's great, because they wouldn't pay you for the babies, so it's free 'merchandise' for them. Does anyone wonder why they don't seperate the sexes? Most people would just give them back to the shop. Good grief (as Charlie Brown would say).

And she (which I hope she is, for you) is just gorgeous.
