Being that we have an influx of unkillable flies and apparently we now have a mouse somewhere in a cabinet, my husband is on a warpath. I feel all disgusting now because I've never had these kinds of problems before, but somehow a mouse got in. Now, you know, I wouldn't mind it so much if he wasn't dropping pooplets in my pots and pans, but that is slightly gross. (This coming from someone with 2 guinea pigs, 2 dogs, and a hamster...poop is my life lol). Anyway, point is, my husband called an exterminator and is having them come here next week to spray for any and every kind of bug and put those mice baits under our house. Supposedly these baits will kill the mice but if another animal eats the poisoned mouse, the poison will not transfer to that animal. I'm worried about my dogs, pigs, and hamster being around all this insecticide. What kind of precautions should I take? I want to make sure everyone is safe.

I would be worried about your pets eating the poison, not just the poisoned mouse!!!

I use to raise rabbits too, and one year, the mice got into the feed and their urine is so strong and potent, we didn't know that the mice were peeing on the rabbit feed and it killed over half of our herd......:(

I'd move them out of the house while you're being de-bugged and de-moused - ask family or friends to take them in for a week or so until all the poisons have gone and the place has been thoroughly aired. It just' isnt worth the risk having them around all those noxious gases and poisons, and small animals especially are really sensitive to insecticides.

Also, find out what's been used so that if anything does happen to your pets after they move back in, you can get them immediate veterinary treatment. I know manufacturers always say that there is no effect on animals ingesting other poisoned animals, but I never believe it!

Good luck with it all.
