I live in the middle of nowhere. My local vets don't even know that much about cats and dogs. We took Shaggy to the vet and a couple of months later he died. The vets told us that Shaggy was the second guinea pig that was EVER there. Shaggy wasn't old, so he couldn't have died from old age. He died because of the STUPID VETS! Well, we still have two guinea pigs, and on the younger one we found a few lumps. My mom wants to take him to the SAME vet. If she misdiagnoses Chip, he could die. I asked my mom if we could take him to a different vet but she said "we'll try them first." I don' know what to do can somebody please help me?!

I might be getting a bit personal, but what city are you looking for a vet in? I found a fantastic vet by browsing bunny forums.

I live in Northwest PA.

you could try
www.aemv.org
I don't know if it'll help, but it's worth a shot.

I checked around here. They do have a couple of vets in PA, but I'm afraid that's SE PA. I only glanced though. And you might be able to call them to get references to other area vets

This list seems to be a bit more comprehensive

These are all bunny vets, though from my understanding, if they treat rabbits they can usually treat Cavies. I'd call ahead just to be sure. You can also try your local yellow pages. Good luck!

Well, I found quite a few places in PA, but most of them were in Pittsburgh, which is three hours away, and Philadelphia, which is six hours away:( When I tried aemv.org

Well, when I tried (broken link removed) I found one three hours away, but my mom still say no:(

Tell her how much they mean to you. Is she paying? If she isn;t maybe you could get money to take the bus there. Try looking in the yellow pages. Sometimes vets that do cats and dogs do small animals well too.

If your mom refuses to take you to any other vet, you may want to print the following out and take it with you.

This way at least maybe your vet won't give you a wrong medication if your piggie has to have meds.

What kind of lumps? It could be abcesses that need drained before they bust and set off a systemic infection.

I went to a vet that said who could treat exotics.

He thought my hamsters were gerbils.

thanks everybody:) I gave my mom that list. I guess we are still going to the same vet:( My mom told me that there was another vet her before the current one came, that was REALLY good. I wish she was still here.
