Hey all! I'm here to vent and wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience ~

I bought a camera in January off ebay, and the seller had a feedback score of 100%. Well, the camera isn't functioning correctly. Tried 4 different sets of batteries, but it just says "change batteries" and turns off in about a minute! Aaaarrrggghhh!

I emailed the seller twice a couple weeks ago, through ebay, with no response. Ebay said since I paid through PayPal to open a dispute through them, so I did on the 19th. I got on the computer last night only to find out, lo and behold, the seller has opened a claim against ME ~ saying they haven't received payment from me! I paid on the same day I won the auction!!! I always pay right away. I even have an email from him, through ebay, saying that the payment cleared to his account and he shipped it out! And now he upped my dispute on PayPal to a claim.

Grrrrrrrr! The nerve of some people! I don't know how he thinks he'll get by with it. In the meantime, I think I'm stuck with a basically useless, expensive camera (that was supposed to be new).

I feel very wary of ebay right now. I've used it for years, though, and have never had a problem!

Anyone else have negative experiences?

As far as I know sellers can't open disputes against you via PayPal, only through ebay. If it is through ebay he's claiming, just forward them details of your PayPal payment. You need to claim for "item significantly not as described". Paypal will then ask you to send it back to the seller (do NOT do this until you're told to) using a trackable postage method. Did you fund the payment on PayPal with a credit card? If you did, claim through your credit card company.

If in any doubt speak to ebay Live Help - Chat Window

I opened a dispute throught Paypal, which he escalated to a claim. He opened a claim on ebay. I didn't there because ebay told me to do it through Paypal, but now they're having to deal with it anyway, too!

I definitely won't send it back until Ebay or PayPal requests that I do so, but even then I'm afraid I'll get screwed over. And I need a camera ~ that's why I got it!

Man that sucks. Just keep all documentation you have and send along copies of whatever. That's the best I can give. I hope you get it resolved. That's tough. This is why I am leery of places like Ebay and Amazon because you can buy from people. You would hope they'd have things in place to be able to dispute but that is not always the case.

Once I ordered something through Amazon and I received notice that the purchase had been taken care of and that I should receive my item in such and such a time. I waited and waited. Nothing, so I emailed the people I purchased the item from. They send a message back saying they were never paid through Amazon and had cancelled my order! I never received any info on a cancellation from Amazon or the seller. I didn't get billed which was fine (I went back and checked), but still couldn't they have said something??

I am really sorry this has happened. I haven't had much luck on e-bay, just 'pay now' type items.

I trust you have given him negative feedback?

Did you pay via a credit card on paypal? If so, call your credit card company and do a charge back! That is the quickest way to remedy your money situation.

If he filed a complain on your through ebay, they will ask you for proof of payment that will be settled easily enough. I would reattempt to file a complaint against him on ebay for damaged items, and would leave him negative feedback.

Regardless of who filed what on Paypal, they will investigate the matter. What they will probably wind up doing is finding the seller at fault. Once they do this (sometime in the next 30 days) they will attempt to remove the money from his account and apply it back to your account. If the seller has no money in his account, they will place a "lien" against his account so that when and if he ever does have any money in his account they will remove it and give it back to you.
I had a seller rip me off once, and he stopped using his paypal account to prevent them collecting my funds from him. Then, a year later when he thought the coast was clear, he added funds to his account and paypal yanked them and sent my money back! HA!

lilpiggy, did you send your item(s) back to the seller?

I won't leave negative feedback until this is over and "resolved." I have found there to be many retaliatory feedbackers on there. I have only personally experienced this once. I left neutral feeback (which has no effect on the score) with some positive comments, and the seller left me NEGATIVE and said, "Good ebayer" I did a lot of research into this and sent emails to many a people and I don't know what ebay 'did' to her, but she was off for a LONG time not selling or buying anything.

In my situation, I didn't receive what I paid for so there wasn't anything to send back. I wouldn't return anything until and unless paypal informs you to do so.

You are right, most people these days on ebay retaliate when you leave negative comments. I have found that people really don't pay it much attention though. It is usually self explanatory when someone has received one for the wrong reasons... That is why I love that there is the ability to respond to comments ;) Ebay really needs to work out some sort of system where when they find someone at fault during a complaint, that they will go back and remove any false negative feedbacks that person has left in regards to the transaction. People shouldn't have to be afraid of ruining their own rating, when they leave legitimate comments to warn other ebayers about a crook. *sigh*
