It's been a while since I stopped in. So I thought I would stop by and ramble about my piggies since "normal" people think I'm crazy
So the news:
Gim and Pip's "owners" never managed to find them a new home and they became part of the family - so we officially have 5 pigs, not just our three plus two "foster-piggies"
We revamped the cages, I was tired of washing towels and fleece and realized I was spending way too much time and money on keeping it up. SOOOO I went out and purchased a very low pile tight weave indoor outdoor carpet that is stain and mildew resistant. That sits on top of the bed pads in the floor of the cage. The bed pads wick the moisture down. Bonus it's really easy to spot clean and we can hit it with the steamer once a week when we change the bed pads to keep it fresh. Double bonus - no more hay in the washer!
With the expense of feeding five pigs solely on us ordering pellets and hay became a bit of an expense. We have been doing it but we were feeling the strain. Fortunately, we found a local and very small feed store by accident and they sell Mazuri pellets (I know not THE best but definitely a better brand) at wholesale and fresh local grass hay (Timothy and orchard mix) by the bale. I can now get a full bale plus 25lb of pellets for less than $50! AND a major bonus he also sells the same bird seed I use wholesale as well so no more ordering that and I NEVER have to go into a pet store again!!!!
Since switching to the mazuri pellets and local hay the pigs seem much happier AND we have less shedding. Bonus, since switching gim and pip's skin condition (which was determined to be a result of chronic malnutrition due to the diet they were fed by their previous owners) has almost 100% cleared up.
So that is all of our news. We have been busy:
Playing peek-a-boo
Fighting crime
getting beautified
Playing quality control
And making dinner
