Hello :) I am new to the forum but I have been visiting this web site for months and I think it is wonderful! I have learned soo much. I curently have 1 neutered male GP named Spike and since coming here I have entirely changed the way I view and care for him. So now for my question..
I want to get him a friend and I have found a women near me who has 2 2-month old females she is giving away. I am going to look at them and possibly take one this coming weekend. However, I am still not a GP expert and I am not sure of all the questions I should ask the woman and what I should be looking for and trying to avoid with the pig. Obviously I know to check to see if it is in good health and what conditions it lives in, but what else should I know before I decide whether or not to take it? All advice is appreciated, thanks!

If they're bonded, please don't separate them.

mncavylover- I do not know if they are bonded. All I know is that she has both parents and she said she'd be willing to separate the babies. Will they automatically bond if they live together or is there a way to know if they are not bonded? I'm not interested in upsetting any little piggies, after all my goal is to make mine happy...

ya im sure you can find all the info you need on this website!~!

Is it a breeder? Please adopt if so. Thanks.

Look at www.cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm for the answers to some of your other questions.
I do not know anything about the woman or her guinea pigs. I have been wanting to adopt from a shelter but every time I check the web list of their pets for adoption they always have a pair of pigs that they want to keep together, or I've seen a couple that said they need to live alone. My cage is not big enough for more than 2 pigs. I was told about this woman through a friend the other day and she is a lot closer than the shelter so I thought it was worth checking out.
I have looked all over cavycages and other related web sites and have learned a lot, but I guess what I am specifically wondering is how to know for sure if her pigs are healthy, if it is normal baby-care to take them to the vet for a check up, or just specific signs I should look for that would be a red flag to stay away. I know all about horses and what's involved in buying a horse even though I've never owned one, but it's the piggies that I'm still fairly new to ;)

How about looking on www.guinealynx.info? It's got some really great info.

If you'd like to pm me with your location, I can help with finding you some pigs.

why not just get 2 girls, and get the boy neutered? It's cheaper to neuter anyhow. Unless he already is, then VIOLA!
