So... I was finally able to pick up my pigs...

I got them weighed, brown/copper is 500g and black/white is 600g.

And and I was even able to sex them, wasn't as hard to do as I thought. Miss brown and copper is indeed a girl... and we have Mr black and white! It was so obvious even before pushing to make his little thing stick out, I could tell he was male.

So.. Now what do I do =( They told me they were approximately 2-3 months old, can they mate that young? If so I may already have a pregnant piggy!

I have enough grids to make space for 2 cages and have 2 water bottles, 2 food dishes, 2 hidey houses, and all that. I just really wasn't prepared to have to separate them, I even just finished their awesome ramp, lol

For some reason I'm not all that surprised 'cause I saw someone had just put their neutered male in with the girls and he was sniffin butts, lol, I'd seen Mr B/W doing that to Miss brown/copper. Sry don't have their names yet. I was very suspicious when I'd seen that happen a few times.

Well anyway, I'm gonna be readin and researching like crazy today, especially if I end up with pups, heh.

Congrats on getting you pigs, but sorry to hear about the different sexes!

Yes they can mate that young. Keep them seperated. You may be lucky and the female is not pregnant yet.

Your best option is to get the male neutered and then reintroduce him to the female 3 weeks after the neuter.

It's very likely your female is pregnant. If thwt is the case you can build a couple nice and roomy cages and you can keep mom with her daughters and the sons can move in with dad when they are 3 weeks old. Good luck.

You guys aren't going to believe this!

I just went back to where I got my pigs at, found out that the last 2 females and 1 male had been adopted. They had 3 males left all in separate cages because they were fighting. So anyway, I told the lady about the fact that I came home with a male and female, I said she might want to watch out for the other girls, but then found out they were gone as well. I told her I had separated them, and hoped that I caught it early enough. (found out they've been together for about 3 weeks.) And ya know what she says to me? "Well, you might as well put them back together since the girl is probably already pregnant" Isn't that crazy?! She then goes on to say, let me know if you have babies, I'm like yeah sure...
I'll keep them safe from there if I have babies!

I was just wide-eyed at that 'just put em back together' comment. Sigh, what kinda rescue is that anyway?

Yikes. That is very frightening that this is a rescue, and other people need to be warned about it. Very unethical, to me. :(

Is it a shelter or rescue?

I'm not really sure, but I think it may just be a shelter, it's called Annie's Pets so it's not real obvious of what they call themselves. I never thought to ask. As far as I know it could even be a pet store, but they don't have anything but animals and food. Also I signed a paper about being responsible or whatever for what happens with my animals after I take them home. They gave me a free bag of food with my pigs even. What do you think? Should I ask them some questions about their place? I'm new to everything cavy, any suggestions would be welcomed.

Sounds like maybe a shelter run by an uniformed individual. Was there an adoption application? Did they 'sell' you the pets? How much were they?

It may just be animals that people dump there, but it could be a pet store too. You should have ask more questions. Shelters are usually city or county run, or privately funded like ASPCA.

Sounds like this may be a pet store to me. :( I would inquire as to where the4y acquire their animals. Did they require an application from you? What was the approval process?

All they did was make me sign a paper about "being responsible" that's about it, I'll ask about where they get their animals, that'll tell me right away what they are.
