Being that our little guys are called the "bean makers" I'll refer to it as that. I was wondering how exactly are their "beans" supposed to look. How do we tell if they are dehydrated or anything out of the ordinary? Just wondering if there was an easy way to tell....TIA!

My pigs are always the same color, dark brown, and exactly the same size. They should be firm. If they're fresh, sometimes they're a little moist, but never watery. This would indicate diarrhea which is serious.

Thanks critterlover. Nope thankfully they have never been watery. I just noticed some were sometimes smaller than others and sometimes seem deformed kinda...but I didnt know if that was just from the boys stepping on them or trampling them or what! Thank you!

If you want to check a particular piggies beans, take them out of the cage and put them on a towel in your lap and wait till they drop some beans. I have 4 sows of different sizes and 2 of the girls have small beans and the other 2 have larger beans.

Usually when the beans harden they are much harder to break up. But if they step in them when they are very fresh, they will crumble easily.

Good idea! thanks ChattyCoco! I'll try that!
