sneezing?

~My pig was sneezing today and I'm not sure why? I have heard that dusty shavings or hay might cause sneezing. If this is the case what would I do to fix it? Or maybe is my piggy sick? I'm not sure even if they can get colds but I am wondering if she could be sick? I think I am a bit too worried about it but should their ears be warmish and how about the soles of their feet, should they be cold? Hopefully and more probably she just sneezing because of the hay or shavings, but if any of you know whether cool ears and feet mean that shes sick please help because its annoying me not knowing. Sneezing could be a sign of an upper respiratory infection...is your piggy making any other unusual sounds? is it eating/drinking okay? active as usual?


When I first got my girl she sneezed frequently because of the dust from the Carefresh bedding - so I switched to fleece. She also sneezed because she was grooming/scratching/biting herself a lot in what I believe was a mite attack - she's since been given ivermectin and with the combo of these things rarely sneezes any more.

Mine was sneezing too, and as a first time piggy mom I freaked out too. And I'm glad I did because she had a really bad respitory infection. But she was weezing too a bit...listen to her close to your ear and you shouldn't hear her breathe...if you do, I would take her to the vet ASAP.

How often is your piggy sneezing, ILovePiggies? Also, have you changed anything about their cages recently - type of bedding, amount of bedding, type of hay, etc.? What kind of sneeze is it - a dry-sounding sneeze or a phlegmy one?

Keep an eye out for other symptoms, like AmeliaBedelia suggested.

just like us piggies will sneeze too.. but if you are still worried you should check your piggies with the vet

Yes, piggies will make a sneezing sound occasionaly, just like we do. Furlong made that sounds twice yesterday, but I don't think its anything to worry about

~Pearls making what I sorta call a sissy sneez. Like its really tiny. I heard her sneez about 5 times yesterday and 3 this morning. No I havn't changed anything except her pellets, but I don't think its those because they were always half and half, like when you switch their types of pellets and she wasnt sneezing when I started the switch. I couldnt hear her breathing so thats good. Maybe she is just sneezing like we do...?~ ~C~

That sounds like it should be fine. Mine do it occasionally. It can come from dusty hay, bedding, etc. They sneeze like we do, yes. It's probably ok if she hasn't been doing it incessantly. If you're really worried, check with a vet. =)

If your piggie is sneezing because of the shavings dont use wood shavings.
