Has anyone ever had a guinea pig weigh under 2 lbs? My three year old female guinea pig only weighs 1.3 lbs..or about that. Do small guinea pigs have a shorter life span? Thanks

No, my piggie weighed 1.4 lbs and she lived till she was 7.

One of my pigs weighs 1.08 pounds... I don't know how old she is.

Its not un-normal. especialy for females to weigh that much. If you are worried however, i would suggest a vet check up to make sure she is in good health and isn't carying around some parasites or something else that could be a major role in such a little piggie. But i'm sure she is fine.

Does she eat enough veggies?

I assume it's like people, some are bigger than others, some are smaller.

Yes, she may just have a smaller build than others. IF you can feel bones protuding then theres something to worry about

She went to the vets a couple weeks ago so she is fine. I just wanted to know if anyone else had small guinea pigs and if they lived as long. Thanks

I also have a small guinea pig, except it is a male. He is 3 months old and weighs 1.10lbs but I am hoping he will grow some more since he is still pretty young. My other male gp who is 5 months weighs more than a pound more then him.

Jane is 2 lbs 12 oz as of this morning, and I am worried that she will live a shorter life because she is so big- she had an x ray last week, and is fine, just fat. I would worry much less about a skinny, active pig than a fat little glutton like Jane. When did you get her? - she could have been born small, not fed ideally until you got her, and just stayed that way. As long as you have no reason to supsect she is sick and she is eating ok, I would bet its just the way she is. My new pig that is one year old is 1 pound 8 oz.

The size of your pigs will probably not matter in the end. they all sound very healthy. And Dandelion, your pig isn't small, he's just still growing. I believe they stop growing around the ten month mark, but don't hold me to it.

Thanks DocDolittle!

I got peanut from a petstore when she was probably however old they are when they can be seperated from their mother. She is now three years old and I think she is just a small guinea pig, after what you guys have told me. She is very healthy and has always seemed smaller. My old guinea pigs were much bigger then her, maybe she was just a runt(sp) of the litter or something. Thanks for all the info.
