Hi. We have two guinea pigs that I suspect have mites. We took them to the vet who inspected them. One of them is much worse with two bloody patches on it's back where I am assuming it has scratched. They have not wanted to be handled lately and I was noticing lots of hair in their cage. The vet did not see any sign of mites but I don't know what else it could be. The vet gave a shot of ivermectin and then prescribed tetracyclene in their food. When I brought them back for a follow up appt. a different vet on call gave me the ivermectin to put on their back two more times. I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with very severe cases. (The one poor pig even had a seizure at the vet's office) I know they feel much better now! They are eating and "popcorning" around and seem very happy. The problem is the wounds on Prince are not healing--at least I don't think. He will get a scab and it looks better and then all of a sudden it is raw again. I never see them sratching but then again I am not with them much---they are my children's. Do you think it will eventually heal up? We have one more treatment of ivermectin in about 10 days. Thanks for any help!!
