My seven year old male is very skinny compared to his son. I am feeding him everything that is says to on the sites people recromend but he is not getting any fatter. I thought that i could give him alfalfa hay instead of timothy because i know that alfalfa is high in fat. Could he have worms? Do gps even get worms? all of my other gps are fat amd healthy. I feed them all the same diet. He is still pretty active. By the way his son is almost a year old, so he is full grown. The difference between them is very noticable. What should i do? Should i start feeding him some alfalfa? Please, this is urgent.

thanks,

Tash

Cant anyone help me?

Perhaps he's not able to compete with the others for pellets and veggies? That would keep him thin. If its not that, and you suspect worms, I'd get him to a vet ASAP and quarantine him in the meanwhile, so that he can't infect the others. As far as i know, any animal can get worms who is exposed to them.

Call the vet! You say you feed him but does he EAT them?? if he isn't eating there could be a MUCH bigger problem then him being to skinny!! I lost my female Zoe when I noticed she stopped eating and getting skinny... it turned out to be cancer and there was nothing that could be done but get him to the vet so they can tell you what is wrong!!!!!

Is he all the while skinny? If he is loosing weight, better look for vet.

He is housed by himself, so their is no competition. He has always be that thin. I didnt notice that this wasnt normal until a little wile ago when i held Sam up next to him.He does eat. Ive seen him. He is just a lot skinnier than Samson. Could his normal weight just be a lot less than Sam's? He got nuetered about a week ago, so he was at the vets. Sam goes in on thursday. I will probably send Salem in with Sam just to make sure he is healthy. He is older so i want to keep on top of any problems. Could he have had worms the entire time ive had him( three years) and me not know anything? What are the other sighns of worms? Thanks for all the advice so far.I really apreciate it.

Sorry about your piggy by the way. Its horrible to lose them.

Could someone please give me some advice? Especialy if its a good idea to feed him alfalfa. Would it be better if i mixed it whith timothy? That is what i am doing now. Also, his seperation from the girls is up. He was recently nuetered. It could be because he was depresed and lonly for gp company. If someone could help me a little bit more i would apreciate it.

Maybe you should call the vet and ask him his opinion

Try posting on Guinea Lynx https://www.guinealynx.info/forums/ - a forum which is meant to help people with health and medical questions. I'm sure someone there will be able to advise you. It could be a number of things, so I would definitely see your vet to help work it out. Good luck with him.

I think he was depressed. He was all alone in my room while all of my other pigs were outside.( I have an out door pen that is soo much bigger than their cages) Since his three weeks was up(he just got nutered) I put him in with my three girsls. He is doing much better. ;) Thanks for all of your help.

Treen, I looked at the site you recromended. It was a little confusing, but it helped. Thanks again everyone.

Skinny Pig

You said that he was always that thin?? So you can completely rule out and problem may have arised from the surgery?

Alfalfa is meant for younger piggies, Im afraid that it as a supplement alone wont do your pig much good. He is getting alot of vitamin C otherwise I assume? Lotsa veggies?

Ya, he just got a little skinnyer. He teeth recently broke so that could have something to do with it. He has gained some wight since he started living with the girls. He is fine now. I had him checked by the vet just in case.

Thanks everyone for all your advice!
