Blaze is almost 6 years old now, and he's really slowing down. Since his brother passed away he's gotten even more slow. He likes to sit in his litterbox or his hidey and just nap there, marinating in his own pee. Every time I pick him up now his underside is wet with urine. Is there anything besides bathing and hair cuts that can help?

Blaze has always been the skittish one, and has become more so after his brother died. He hates having his butt bathed, and completely freaks out over scissors. I can trim his back and sides, but I'm afraid to try his undersides for fear of cutting him.

He's on fleece with absorbent pads underneath, if you're wondering. I've taken the litterbox away for now. It makes the cage messier, but his butt is a little drier now.

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your other pig. Not sure if you've tried this, but what about moving his house to different spots pretty often? Then he will at least have a fresh spot a couple times a day. Also, maybe put 2 or 3 houses in and see if he will switch among them. My girls also just pee wherever so I can only uses houses with no bottoms so that urine soaks through the fleece liner and into the wood pellets below. No cute beds or strawberry houses for them! Good luck : )

Have you tried considering bringing a little cage mate for him? Personally my guinea pig Frappu was very upset, after his friend passed away, he was acting similar to yours.
I got him a friend, not only because I felt he should have a friend. But due to the sitting and other things that happened.. he started developing a bladder stone also. So I needed to get him a friend for the little one to keep the older one moving. He couldn't stay still due to the stone issues, and after months they learned to get along. It did take some time, due to the bully issues but now they are inseperable.

If you can't do this.. then I suggest, just try to wipe his butt with a paper towel lightly..don't be giving too many baths, as inside could be getting a bit too wet, and then he might start getting uncomfortable also. I would be scared of scissors myself with their size.

For the bath, why don't you try spray on shampoo? My guinea pigs hate water but they love the spray on.

magicpiggie All guinea pigs love water.. You might be not giving them a bath with warm water..

Spray-on shampoo is not recommended for guinea pigs. They have very delicate digestive systems, and when they groom themselves, they ingest the shampoo. It's far better to bathe them in water, and carefully wash out any shampoo that you might use. If you use one, get one made for small exotic pets.
