Sick Piggie???

My younger gp Dash might be sick, I'm not certain. He sneezes and coughs often. I don't know if this is serious or not but I'm kinda worried.

hmm... maybe he ate to fast so that is why he is coughing. I am not sure about sneezing. If he keeps doing it I would take him to the vet.

Yeah, I'm watching him closely. I saw the other post about this just now, and I think thats whats going on. (or at least I hope so!) It mostly happens when he drinks or eats fat so I think it's ok. I was just worried, but now that I see the other subject/topic on this I'm okay. (Mods feel free to delete this.)

From what I've gathered, the coughing is often just a problem of a piggie who eats too fast (as long as their skin/eyes/nose/ears are clear).
What kind of bedding do you use in your cage? The sneezing (as long as everyting else looks ok and their breathing is not abnormal, ie wheezing) can often be due to the type of bedding you are using. For a while, little 'ol uneducated me was using pine and my pigs would sneeze quite frequently, and even when I switched to aspen they would sneeze quite a bit. Now that I use fleece, they seem to be fine and the sneezing has stopped completely!

Cavies are very good at hiding illnesses. Sometimes they are far into an illness before we notice it. Coughing can be from eating too fast but it can be from an illness as well. Sneezing can be caused by some beddings but can also be a sign of illness.

If your pig is sneezing and coughing often then I would make a vet appointment to have it checked out because he may have the beginnings of a URI.

What kind of bedding do you use in your cage?

Well I don't have a C&C cage as of yet.. (Just got the $100 and plan on getting supply's for it today(monday) or tommorow!!!) So for now... I have a cat carrier attached to a pet store cage, the cat carrier part has aspen wood chips in the back of it and the pet store part, has a towel in it with some newspaper.

Ok well as soon as I pay for the stuff to make their new c&c cage I'll make an appointment for the vet. (hopefully I'll have enough money left over from the $100 to take him.)
