sick pig?

My guinea pig has been having a runny, crusty nose for a couple days. She is eating and her eyes seem fine. Is this a sign of a URI? Should i take her to the vet?

Yes, that is definately symptoms of a URI! Listen closely to her breathing and see if you hear a clicking noise. I have two pigs with a URI. Go straight to the vet. They can go downhill quickly and if you catch it early it may be easier to get rid of it.

Always take possibly sick pigs to the vet right away. Being prey animals they are great at hiding their symptoms until it is too late and can get very sick very quickly. 3days is enough time to lose your guinea pig.

I saw this post and had to reply. I learned the hard way today about sick piggys. My little Beni died today because I didn't take him to the vet right away. I only had him for 4 1/2 days

He and his cagemate Cali were supposed to go to the vet today in the afternoon. I was in denial that Beni would make it to the apt so I waited. I know better now. I'm an inexperienced guinea pig owner and wish I would have done more research before I got them.

I didn't think I would ever be so attached to guinea pig. I'm more of a cat person. But when I held little Beni at the pet store (another learning experience) and he wouldn't let go of me, I was smittened.

I hope anyone else that reads this post won't have to go through what I just did these past few days. It's very heartbreaking.
