Sick Pig...maybe?

My Guinea Pig peed white too, if it's from too much calcium could it be in her pellets? B/C she gets her pellets, and carrots and lettuce (I've only had her for a week) but I didn't think carrots and lettuce had enough calcium to turn her urine white?? What's the deal?

This is quite an old thread, but I'll answer your questions GG.

Pellets don't usually contain much calcium unless they are aflalfa-based pellets. Even then, pellets alone shouldn't contain enough calcium to cause white pee. Your pig needs a lot more variety, GG. It is most likely to be the carrots causing your pig to pee white - they are high in calcium and Vitamin A, so all that excess calcium gets flushed out in the urine, turning it white. One small baby carrot per pig per day is the highest amount of carrot advised for piggies.

I am guessing you're feeding unlimited hay daily too? Carrots and lettuce alone do not make for a good varied fresh diet. They need other things, like cilantro (coriander), peppers, zucchini (courgette), lots of different lettuces (no iceberg though), and chard. Any selection of these is great each day. Look through The Common Misconeptions of Guinea Pigs and their Care Thread, in particular post #3, for a more detailed list.
