My girl pig spotty, I use a towel for the bedding instead of shavings and I have notice there seems to be a white discharge coming from her but, she doesn't act sick or doesn't have mite or lice or anything. Is this normal?

Is it actually coming out of her bum... or are there white spots on the towel? If it's the latter, it means there is too much calcium in the diet. If it feels gritty, I think that is a sign of an illness (can't rembmeber whether it's UTI or stones)

Its on the towel, and it isn't really gritty just liquid that has dried on the towel. If it is too much calcium how can i stop it. All she eats is the regular pelluts and gp food from the bag and then timothy hay. Nothing else

WHAT! Nothing else... you do know that guinea pigs need 1 cup (minimum) of fresh vegetables daily? Hhm... the liquid you are talking about is your pigs urine. What kind of pellets are you giving her?

What do you mean by pellets AND gp food? What is gp food from the bag? What kind of pellets are you giving your piggies. If they are under one year make sure your pellets are alfalfa based. If over one year, timothy based.

Your piggies need veggies which I am sure you have been reading on this site from loads of posts. How come you are not feeding them any if you don't mind me asking.

My piggies tend to urinate white also from time to time. Too much calcium as others have stated. It fluctuates. As long as its not gritty.

Its a walmart brand. I will give her the veggies and leave them day after day but she won't eat them she moves them to get to the pellets. I don't think it is urine b/c its not every where just in places where she naps or sits for a long period.

the brand is wild harvest for the pellets

Take my word for it, its urine. If your piggy is not getting any veggies please make sure you are giving her vitamin c supplements. Have you tried peppers, parsley, any fruit? Try taking out her pellets at veggie time and leaving the veggies there for a few hours with no pellets. Check your walmart brand ingrediants and see what the base is.....alfalfa or timothy? How old is your piggy?

I have tried oranges, apples, peppers, lettuce, beans won't touch them. She won't do anything with it. I will try to take out the pelluts and leave the veggies and see if she will take them. Its alfalfa based and she is under a year about 2-3 months old

Food is fine. Try cilantro if you can get, its a very strong smell and piggies usually love it. Do try taking her pellets out for awhile. Let me know how it goes. Don't worry about the white discharge as long as it is watery. Just keep an eye on it.

You really should get plain pellets like Oxbow. that stuff has seeds and other junk in it. She'll choke on it and get really fat. I'm sure some of the ingredients aren't that great either.

She may not know how to eat veggies. She needs a friend to show her. Or go to farmer's market and get really fresh romaine, dandelion greens, cilantro, parsley, lots of green stuff. Feed stores usually have fresh hay. Pet store hay especially from Wal Mart isn't that great usually.

Guinea Pigs can't generate their own vitamin C. they need vegetables.
CARROTS!!! GIVE THEM CARROTS!!! they can also get overgrown teeth if you don't give them hard carrots/.

Remember, too many carrots are not good for them. Give carrots sparingly, twice a week is okay.

You know I stated that I do give her veggies, but if she doesn't eat them i can't stuff her mouth and force her to eat them and I can't get another gp plus she gets vitamin C from the cranberry juice

The food i have been told to give my piggies is "Living World EXtrusion" it is an all -in-one food and is alfalfa based food. It also has the Vit c 1000mg/kg for the liitle ones. On top of that i give my girls, fresh veggies and fruit and timothy hay each day. Don;t forget lots of fresh water. With proper pellets, hay and veggies your babies should be fine. The one thing i was told was to make sure that i don't give them to much "extra Alfafa" because thier pellets are alfafa based. You see, too much alfafa can lead to a system overload of calcuim.

I live ia very rural area don't have very much access to get to many pet stores and the food i'm giving to my pigs they like it. She doen't eat the veggies so to get her vit C she gets cranberry juice. She has access to Hay all day so I'm thinking she will be fine.

If she won't eat them, just keep trying to give her a variety of vegetables. It may be that she's just not used to them yet. Is Ms. Piggy fond of vegetables?

MR. Piggy eats his veggies.

If you live in a rural area, like myself, then Farmer's Markets should be plentiful. There is a list on guinea lynx that list all the veggies you can try. Someone here has it... I really should remember that link!!

You may have to revist veggies, as sometimes pigs don't like it one day and love it to deatht he next. Mine did this with Green Peppers. Stay away from Pears... makes them bloat. I've never heard of a pig that turns down cilantro - there may be one out there, but it's a rareity. I have found that cilantro is very easy to grow, so you can always do that.

You may have to hand feed to get her to understand that it's okay. Eat some in front of her.

Why can you not get another guinea pig? Guinea pigs are sociable animals and need to be kept in pairs! (With a few exceptions of course)
