Curiosity Question. I was reading through different posts trying to find more information on gerbils. I read one where one person stated that showing and breeding animals is torture.
I am curious to this one thought. If it ceased to exist, one day, any domestic animals, no place to purchase pet nessecities, no dogs, cats, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, chincillas, ferrets; you get the idea...would you then be happy?

I ask because where exactly do you think these domestic animals come from?
And knowing that owning domesticated animals are medically great therapy and proven to expand the life of a human being I am confused by this statement....made in one way or another by several on these forums. You obviously own a small animal of one type or another or you wouldn't be here. So where did yours come from, a shelter, a pet store, a friend? And where did it come from prior to that? Do you stop to think about the great big picture of this world before you speak, I wonder. There are cruelties in this world to all things living and yes it sucks, but you talk that about these things not thinking about where yours came from, not the immediate location, but before that, and his/hers parents before that. If it is so cruel don't own any ... period.

Breeding animals is torture. There is so many animals in shelters that just accidental litters could support the pet industry alone. I'm pretty sure that this one belongs in the kitchen area of the forum. Also, were not against pet supply stores just pets stores in general. Therefore we would still be able to get our pet supplies from these stores.

Breeding: act of biological reproduction.

Accidental Litters is an act of Breeding and Pet Stores would cease to exist if no one had pets to purchase for! Basic Economy.

It's a pity you didn't read more of the threads in the kitchen before you posted this, it would answer all of your questions. Do have a look over some of these threads.

If it meant an end to cruelty and selfishness if people no longer kept domestic animals then it would be a happy day for me.

I posted this question out of curiousity because I READ quite a few threads, however NO I did not go through Thousands of threads to get answers when I could just post one myself. The cruelties of others (though sad and unjust) makes it possible for us all to love the ones we have. However no one stops to think about exactly where yours came from. We are talking about hundreds of years of breeding and domestication. That will NEVER and can NEVER be undone.

When it has already been answered in those "thousands" of threads. Which makes one wonder if you're just trying to be antagonistic.

AGAIN.... A curiosity question...I am not going to spend hours exploring THOUSANDS of threads. I was simply wondering how many people actually stop to REALLY think about where their pet came from. I am not trying to antagonize anyone, I have yet to see an answer that would stop and make me think and reconsider mine. You all seem to be very judgmental and very close minded. We should all rejoice in the differences of one another rather than judge and it is only a simple courtesy to stop and think before screaming judgments and look at things from a larger view rather than with blinders on.

What exactly is it you're wanting to know? I don't understand.

Have any of us truly thought about the original origin of all domestic animals, going back to the era of cave men? I doubt it - but that doesn't mean that people don't "think before they speak."

Breeding - the act of biological reproduction - isn't in and of itself torture. Obviously that's quite a natural process that all species with an ounce of self preservation engage in. What most people are saying is that the PURPOSEFUL breeding in the face of such a large overpopulation crisis of so many different species of animals is irresponsible of human beings and torture to the animals current in existence. The origin of species in these circumstances doesn't really matter all that much, since the same situation didn't really apply.

There are so many threads on this same exact topic. I don't think we need another.
