Shocking Expierience

I just had the worst expierience of my life - I thought i was ready to die.

my piggies' floortime set up is in the bathroom, everything is removed, and it is completely safe, so I usually dont monitor them. Today, my sister really wanted to set it up and play, and i was doing a big project with my friends downstairs. My sister set up floor time, and then stayed with them for two hours, then went over to her friends house. I go up like 30 minutes after she leaves, to give them some cuddles, and they are gone!!!!!! I went into hysterics, and i thought i was ready to kill my sister. She hadnt set it up right, so the latch wasnt closed correctly. the piggers must have pushed it open. I was in a panick, and for 20 minutes, i was sobbing nonstop as i searched. I was so worried something could have happened. I went searching for them all over the house, calling out their name with at least 30 baby carrots in my hand. I eventually found them, under my parents' bed, and seeing me, they came readily and burried them selves in my legs.

Gosh, i was so frightened. that is the LAST time my sister sets up for floor time. She feels so bad now. She was crying, and has sent me at least a hundred little pieces of paper cut in hearts with "im REALLY sorry" written on it, she slipped them under my door. anyways, it will be a while before i share any piggy responsibilities with her.

aww are you and your piggys ok?

Im still a bit shaky....the pigs seem kind of scared and timid too. i put carrots in their cage, and they didnt touch them. carrots are their favorite!

awwwwww.....why exactly where u so scared? do you have dogs or cats? stairs? what really could have happened exactly? i'm not being smart, i'm just curious to know if there's something i'm not watching out for?

yes i have stairs, and a top floor railing with 3 inch wide poles that they could have easily fallen through. we also havnt piggyproofed the whole house, so there were exposed wires and things like that around.

gosh, the piggys are still in relatively the same spot. is this ok?

Aw, your sis is so cute with the whole hearts thing. How old is she?

Same thing happened to me but they were having exercise outside in my garden! I was in the living room, so I could see through the window and out to my garden. I looked outside and they were gone!!! I was so scared, so I went outside and they were both sitting behind a plant pot munching on some grass!

how old is your sister? is everyone ok? that sounds alot like what happenede to my Hamster when my brother dropped him, the hamster didn't want anything, hid in his tube for a while, but aftera few hours came out just fine. just check if they are injured or anything. Also don't kill your sister or anything, i am sure she did not mean to, but i do agree, don't give her that much responsibility again, or next time, moniter her, don't completely cut her off though, that would just break her heart, from my experience, just have it be, like you have to be there, too or something like that.

My sister is 10.

now that ive calmed down, and have seen the piggies as their normal selves again, im not mad at her anymore. I know it was an honest mistake. she has all her usual responsibilities back, which are all little things like filling up water if neccessary, adding fresh hay, feeding new pellets, stuff like that.

I have an older sister. Against my permission, she used to take my dog for a walk and do it without a leash. With her, that dog was run over by a truck on two occasions, and lost another two times, and once ran away for hours with a boy dog.

Pets are living creatures. People think they are borrowing toys.

Wow. That's not good at all. She should have put them back if she wasn't there. You also may want to make sure that they're within your sight too. For example, if you can't watch them, have her watch them in the same room as you're in, or a nearby one. That way, you may have a better chance of knowing what's going on.

the thing is, they stay by themselves other times too. the place is completely safe and nothing can happen to them, the grids we use are double grid so they cant even escape throught that. its actually safer than in their own cage.

i forgot to add - i would love to personally monitor them, but their cage is a little smaller than most peoples so i want to give them 3-4 hours at least every day. with homwework and sports and drama and coleading a girls scout troop, dont have time to spend all four hours in there. i usually spend at least 2, and my sister does the other 2, but sometimes we cant.

Wow, that must have been horrible, looking for them that long!
How big is your cage?

I know what you mean. I'm busy. That's why my cage is so big.

my cage is 3x2 with one extra unit. so technically it is a 2x3.5

yeah, i really want to make the cage bigger, but right now, we have no room. the only other place in the house is in the studio loft, and theres plenty of room up there, but its in a whole different wing of the house, and i hardly ever go there. the piggies wont get much attention if i put them there.

and adding on to my list of things i have going on, because i forgot one of the most important time consuming things. playing in the county symphony - that takes up a whole lot of time too. most of the time though, i do my homework with them. they like crawling on my notebook and watching the pencil move.

Yeah, it's probably better this way. You can add a top level though.
