So I've been posting in here but haven't introduced myself yet! I'm Kourtney, I live in California, and have had Shelby for about 3 weeks now. He's a 9 week old Abyssinian. I named him Shelby after the Shelby Mustang after hearing him purr lol (I work for Ford, what can I say :D). Thank you to everyone so far who has been so helpful. I'm sure I have more questions to come!

He is so cute! And so young! One thing I don't miss about babies is all their little poops that can't be picked up by the scooper. haha
I don't know if that giant log thing is good for them though. I thought I saw a few people telling others to take them out for some reason. Maybe someone else will know. . .

I love abysinnians and hope to eventually find one to adopt around here.

Maybe because it is supposed to be edible? I actually haven't noticed him chewing it, he mostly just hides in it.

He is adorable! Will he be getting a friend? Looks like he has a great area to live in! Awesome job! Welcome! :)

Aww he's so cute!!

Kourt, those logs are no good -- way too sweet for them. I'd pitch that and put in a cardboard box with the ends and the bottom cut out.

Thanks guys! A friend is being debated as he is still undergoing treatment for mites. I don't want to bring someone new in as long as he still has them. For his living area he is in an 8 square foot Midwest Habitat (I apologize for the photo, believe it or not I've already swept up TWICE today ;)). His floor area is a bit larger.

@bpatters: For the log, he doesn't eat it or chew it or anything. Only hides in it and runs through it. Still take it out?

I totally understand the poop problem. I sweep it every night and in the morning when I can, and their cage is constantly a mess. :sarcastic

Seriously, he needs to hire himself a housekeeper haha.

Forgot about this one. He looks like a cartoon character! lol

I think the pigs consider us their housekeepers. Or maybe the more appropriate word would be slaves.

haha! yeah right? it's an ongoing joke in the household right now with all our pets. three dogs, three turtles, one tortoise, a hamster, and this guy. we've told them they all need jobs if they want things. my chihuahua looks at me like "riiiiight ma" lol

If he's not eating it, it's fine. Just leave it there. But if he makes any serious inroads on it, I'd remove it.

Will do, thanks!

Oh my goodness he is absolutely the cutest thing ever! He looks so happy! I love how you have everything set up!
