If I pet my pig (expecially Mo) and near his bum a lot of hair will come out. If you use your thumb and pointer finger and go from his roots to the end (about and inch of have from one side to the other) usually 7+ hairs will come out sometimes less. Do you know anything? I am going to take them to the vet for a checkup just need to see which is less.

My pigs shed like crazy! I can't believe it. They shed more than my cats, seriously! Is that normal? I took them both to the vet last week and he said they looked fine, although I just went for a check-up, not to specifically check on their hair loss...

Some of my pigs shed as well, especially when I haven't petted them or brushed them in a day or so. I don't think its a medical emergency when my pigs shed. After all the average human loses 70 + hairs a day. If it was chronic, patches missing, dry flaking skin I would think you should worry. Squishy sheds quite a bit when petted and Pepper does too. Their skin is fine. If you don't like the shedding try brushing everday and check for skin problems. Are they scratching themselves alot?

Wheekwheek

My long-haired piggy sheds so much that the carpet on the second level is just covered in her hair! I have checked her over a number of times to check for skin irritations, but there is nothing. I guess some piggies just tend to shed more than others.

My pigs drop hair evereytime I touch them and they always look fine.

Both of my boys shed a lot. I can't even shake it or wash it out of the fleece anymore. I just figure they are normal and lose hair just like every other mammal. Except for those weird shedless dogs, or is it a cat?

If the hair loss is pretty much contained in one area on a pig it can be an indication of parasites (mites, fungus, ringworm, etc.).

It is more on his bum. I did it to him right behind his ears to his bum and more comes out near the bum. They will be going into the vet soon, I need to make an appointment.
