Hi. I just held my piggie and noticed when I put her back in the cage that she had shed a LOT of hair on my shirt. As much as my cat sheds during the summer! Is this normal? Is it the time of year when they are shedding their coats? Shes' an abbysinian. She seems otherwise healthy and normal, but gosh it was a lotta hair! Usually there's very little shedding.

It could be a parasite, most likely mites, lice or fleas..i'd take her to the vet if she is shedding that much :S

Mine shed a lot, especially Ascot. Once I put him down, I must have abot 20ish hairs on me. He's always been like that, and I'm positive he doesn't have any skin problems. Maybe some pigs just shed more than others?

I agree, My Cocoa(he's an American Satin) has always shed tremendously, like a dog. Are there any bald spots on him?

I was suggesting parasites because it sounded like the hair loss or shedding had all of a suddon picked up..but yes, it could just be that your piggie sheds quite a bit.

I have an Aby who does not have mites, but sheds quite a lot. I think it's normal for any piggies to shed. If she starts developing bald spots then I would think it was mites.

do you brush her at all? that could help a little.

My abbysinian sheds alot too. I don't think there is anything to worry about.
