I have had piggies for over 2 years not. I first got Tony when he was a baby form a pet store (before I knew better). A few months later (after Tony was neutered) I got Tasha from a rescue. The get along great and are lost with out each other but ever since Tasha cam along Tony has been shedding a lot. There are not bald spots and the vet has givien both of them a clean bill of health. I was just wondering if any of you expierenced this and if you ahve any tips.

yeah, I did notice that my girls were shedding, and I was worried too. But I can assure you that it is normal for them to shed, and as long as there are no bald spots (accept behind their ears...that's normal) or no crusty or flakes they should be fine. No worries!

just a question, do they shed as much as dogs?

shedding can get out of hand when it is their shedding season and you dont brush them daily.

when you notice that they are shedding more, it is better to brush them everyday to remove the loose hair. it also helps to prevent hairballs (rare in guinea pigs but can happen) when the piggies clean themselves.

is this shedding a problem with americans and english cavies?

All three of my Americans shed.

ok, thanks denise. i was just wondering if this was a problem for only long-haired piggies but i guess not!

At least you didn't find guinea pig hairs in your scalloped potatoes tonight! :/

my boar is shedding quite a lot too right now .. maybe cuz summer is approaching..

One of my piggies sheds like crazy like clockwork every July. I guess she's too hot lol!

Around here, if it isn't piggy hairs, it's dog hair! (Gross, I know, but at 122# his hair is everywhere no matter how much I vacuum!)

Ascot seems to leave tons of hair on my clothes. Sometimes I pick him up before school and my friends will notice some of his white hairs stuck on my bright blue jumper!
