After Pierre passed it was pretty hard on Sebastian. I had always read about guinea pigs becoming depressed but had never experienced it.
Sebastian went into a depression. He slept in his litterbox the majority of the day. He started eating notably less of his pellets and veggies. Since I am not around much due to school and work I felt terrible about him staying by himself. I found an older male on craigslist that was in need of a home. I went and picked him up. His name is Charlie and this is his fourth and final home.
He is a little underweight for his size, but is overall healthy. I had to take Sebastian to the vet today because he gets sebacious cysts and I just can't clean them myself. They freak me out. I took Charlie along to be checked out and to have the vet look at a possible abcess on his leg. Apparently Charlie had an unattended sebacious cyst that got a little irritated. What are the odds of having two boys with the same problem?
Because of the severe change in Sebastian's behavior, I decided to take both of them to the vet and did not quarantine.
The two of them get along great and Sebastian is already back to his old self. Charlie is settling in well and loves fleece. He's not used to the cage size, but I'm sure he'll figure it out in no time. Hopefully a little TLC will do this little guy well.
