When I cut my piggy's hair I have been using a scissor. I find it very tedious and time consuming. Does anyone hear use an electric hair trimmer? Have you ever nicked your piggy's skin? Anything I should know about using this device?

hmmm...... I think the buzzing will freak him out.

I am hysterical here just imagining holding my piggie with this electric razor in my hand buzzing loudly inching closer and closer. Thank you for this good laugh.

I use an electric trimmer when I give Daisy an "all over" cut.

I put Daisy on a T.V. table with a towel on it and give her veggies. Before I start trimming her I put a cutting guard on it, turn it on and just hold it near her. She usually startles when I turn it on then approachs it and sniffs it and goes back to her veggies.

I start trimming at her shoulders and work my way back. It's hardest at her lower back and butt because she doesn't like to be touched there and jumps around but I feel it's safer then scissors. I have never knicked her with the electric trimmer.

Make sure you do put a trimming guard on the blade. Not for safety but to prevent having a pig with bald spots. One jump from your GP and it's got a reverse mohawk if there is no guard on the blade.

OH...I can attest to that. I had the guard on but Scooby backed into the clippers and mowed one whole section off. So instead of getting a trim, he got a buzz cut. I left the front long so now her looks like a punker.

That sounds hilarious! I just use scissors to trim the longer part of Cinnamon's hair off his butt. I think he would look great with a mohawk because he's got the fur on top that sticks up all over the place.

I use scissors. Tuppy doesn't get a full haircut- just the area around her butt is trimmed. At one stage the ends of her hair were curly, but those curls got trimmed off quite a while ago (with scissors). The only thing is, it's a nightmare to get her to stay still! I have to get my mum to do the trimming, while I hold her. Anyoen have any tips for trimming her myself? She is a 'pig with attitude' and hates to imagine that she is anything but independent, so she's never been great when handled.

I don't think it would be to good. I shave dogs and the first time the dogs are usually jumpy which can get them nicked. My dog today sat down when I was doing her butt. I would think a guinea pig would jump around more and if you don't have to fast of reflexes it can nick them. I have tried to put the guad thing on and shave my dog but they didn't work.

Here is a picture of Scooby, 2 weeks after his botched haircut. Doesn't look too bad now.

Thats kinda cute! I want a longhaired piggy I would like trimming the hair.

Ok, My Baby Mu; hop on a plane and you can come and do my Tuppence for me then!

You can hop on a plane and come here! My friends gp, Princess, has long hair near her rump and I trimmed some of her hair she had mats. :) It was only a layer of hair that was all the long hair she had on her.

Peice of advice if your pigger has mats (nots in hair that you can't brush out with out hurting it) don't wash them and try to get the mats out and make sure you longhaird doesn't have mats before you wash them because the mat will get tighter and closer to the skin when you wash 'em.
