Just wanted to tell you guys something scary that happened to us yesterday evening.

I made a little hay rack by bending up one of my grids and zip tying it to the side of the cage. Last night we were watching tv and I thought I heard a weird noise, like a little squeal come from the room the pigs are in. I went to check on them and before I even got there the squeals had turned frantic. I yelled for my husband to come help me because I was terrified that our cat had somehow managed to get in the cage (which seems impossible with how many zip ties I used). Lulu, the smaller size piggy, had somehow managed to crawl inside the hay rack from the open side and then tried to get out through the grid and had her head stuck!! I was fumbling around trying to get the cage opened as fast as I could. It was so awful because Lulu was freaking out and she was starting to really panic as we were trying to help her. I was so scared that she was going to break her neck. My husband ended up having to hold her body with one hand and push her head in with the other hand.
She's fine now. I ripped out the stupid hay rack that I was so proud of!

I've heard about baby proofing the C &C cages for babies but I guess I didn't realize that she was THAT small.

Good thing you were home when it happened. I thought about doing that based on other peoples pictures of the same thing and would be fine for my (2) two year olds, but now that I also have (2) six week olds, it would have been a bad idea.

I'm glad it turned out okay and you were able to rescue her!

Bent-grid hay racks are a terrible idea. We've seen a bunch of pigs with broken legs trying to get out of those kind of racks.
