Scary nighttime noises

My Thor sometimes "hoops" at night. It sounds almost like hiccups, but then he'll make a loud noise something like clearing his throat, and then it'll stop. A vet said he sounded a little congested, so we treated him for a cold. But it never really went away. It's not every night, and he doesn't do it when he sleeps during the day. In fact, he's usually awake and it's only at night. Giving him a light snack of nuggets will also usually stop it. AND he's a very peppy guinea pig.

Weird, huh? Any ideas?

Yea the reasons probablythe bedding your using or hes eating to fast.Mine do that all the time i watch them chop down the veges and cough like their choking on it .Its fine unless he continiously does it like 15 times then help em out.Never had to help one out though.But with out seeing him or hearing him its hard to say what it really is.But i doubt its anything serious.

Amy will give a little cough sometimes And it sounds like she is choking but she stops after a couple seconds. And how exactly would you help them out?

if thier choking on something just like a kid stick your smallest finger down their throat..or take something small enough to stick in there.

I don't think he's choking... because he doesn't have food when he does it. It's the middle of the night, and he wakes me up. Well, he's got timothy hay, but not nuggets or veggies. And he never does it at mealtimes. In fact, it doesn't affect his behavior at all. When he wakes me up, I check on him, and he comes over to say hello, making the noise. He'll walk around, etc, seemingly okay, just making the noise. Then he'll either make the aforementioned throat-clearing noise, or I'll give him a few nuggets, and that'll make it go away.

It's really weird, and it's strange that it's only at night and doesn't seem to bother him.

mine doesnt do scary noises, but my mom told me at night she keeps hearing noises from the cage. when she went and checked it out, she saw Pig was running around like it has gone crazy... im pretty new to pet, so i thought something is wrong too, until i see it does it again during the day time, and my mom told me: see see thats what it did during the night. and im like... ohhhhhh i think it's popcorning, but my cage doesnt have enought space (commercial cage) hahaha...
