So I want to make a guinea pig cage out of a book shelf/case. I already have one that's big enough, but I dont know what type of wood it is, and it's treated with I dont know what. I an already guess the answer will be no, because of chemicals and such. The thing is my guinea pigs never chew on anything and I really dont want to waste money on a book shelf.
Thanks in advance!

It wouldn't be a very good idea, because your guinea pigs' urine would soak it into the wood and make it rot. Also, if you have no idea what it is treated with, it isn't a very good idea.

If you found a way that the wood wouldn't rot, you could try putting fleece over the edges of the base of the cage to avoid them possibly chewing on treated wood.
